THis is exactly what we taught our son!

I believed and I really don't remember when I found out 'the truth'. It seems to have not been a trauma or anything as I'm guessing I simply outgrew it. 

I kept the magic going for my son (an only child) way beyond the usual age, but it was such fun for me (and him). When he expressed the questioning (and he was quite old for it, maybe even close to 10), I finally told him that when you are little  you get to receive the magic that is the legend of Santa. As you get older, you get to give that magic to others (then we got involved with charities and giving to/doing for others during the holidays). He really seemed ok with that, and was excited to do for others.

I've never felt there is a conflict between Jesus and his birth and Santa. Giving of themselves to others was/is the mission of both. 

And I certainly don't consider it deceiving or lying to kids to foster some fantasy like Santa, Easter Bunny Tooth Fairy etc. I've never actually met anyone who was 'messed up'  and couldn't separate fantasy from reality because of being told of these magical characters in childhood. If they have trust issues or reality issues, it is from much bigger things.

Quit being so sensitive, nothing in that post was directed at you, but every year we have people debate the 'damage' that lying to your children about these characters does or does not do.

It you saw it as in insult and internalized it, you must be bothered by your own opinions, not mine.

It seems impossible for you to post without including an insult to others.  You can't stop yourself, you did it again.  And you have a ready excuse by blaming those you insult for your behavior.  You've got your bases covered for being constantly insulting to others.

Yes, I did, I think until about the second or third grade.  Then, I remember my fourth grade teacher telling all these Santa stories about milk and cookies and such, and she pretty much had me believing again!  (Who couldn't trust their fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Booher?)

I don't rememeber when my kids found out Santa wasn't real.  It didn't seem to be a big deal to them.   It was a bigger deal to me.   Lol

They will continue to her presents from Santa and their stockings filled until I can no longer do that.   Lol

I never felt I was lying to them.   They never were traumatized by my deception either

Christmas and Santa Claus are wonderful memories and today, at my age, warm my heart.. so much excitement, all the snow...  go to church Christmas Eve, come home knowing Santa would be there that night..
