Re: SAM'S CLUB - Changes coming

I think they will try it and see how it goes.  If customers complain and give a lot of negative feedback, they'll make changes.

Didn't Target have to get rid of self-checkout due to theft ... or complaints?

i have not heard any of this.

i do already use the scan and go app and i love it. i think i have been using it for two years now. very easy to use and to get out quickly. i love that i dont have to empty my cart out and put it onto the belt.

our food area recently got a major makeover. they used to have kiosks where you placed your order and then picked it up at the counter.  they got rid of all of the kiosks and you now place your order with a human behind the counter. it has been HOT and i really needed an ICEE lol.

Hi @sunshine45   Question:  How do each of the items in your cart, each tally up, so at pay time, a total cartful of purchases accumulated towards a bottom line total to then pay electronically?

And at which point are all your purchases bagged up?

If these questions abt process makes any sense...  TIA

At Grocery stores, avoiding emptying out my cart, only to then pack up, & bag my purchases, sure sounds good to me!

@JoyFilled Warrior I think what @sunshine45  does is, scan each item as she takes it off the shelf and she loads it straight into her shopping bag.

She's sort of doing self checkout as she shops.  When she's done shopping all she has to do is go to a register and pay for the items she's scanned and bagged already.

I do see the scanners when I go into the store.  They don't have them where I live.  I've never been tempted to do it.  But I do self checkout every time I shop.

Re: SAM'S CLUB - Changes coming

I guess I am going to have to learn more and I do self checkout but have not tried the scan and go.  So many changes and less people needed which is a shame. People need jobs and nice to have help.  My daughter helps me with new things if I can't understand it completely.    I try and stay up to date on things even if I am not a fan of the idea.

Times have changed and will continue to change.  Glad I need less and less.

Companies use apps because they make money from them.

It is an obnoxious practice.

WOW. @Lucky Charm   That's amazing!  What a perceptive & great "Explainer" you are!

I had NO idea this process/technology was even an available possible process.

And all I have an inexpensive, little dinky TracFone Samsung from QVC/HSN that I renew or upgrade intermittently.

This whole thing is a brand new, seeming crazy (for this old person), way of thinking & doing.

And then there's HOW to do this, & with what (esp electronic) items we all the need, (ex Phone, which various APPs, for scanning purchases, making payment, spending $$,  etc)

Boggles my everlov'n mind!

I can see the pros & cons, but the Learning Curve feels daunting, & yeah, can feel overwhelming.

THANK YOU for this entire thread & responses & explanations, folks!!

It's called greed. The Walton family is one of the wealthiest families in the world and they can afford to pay a living wage to cashiers. The new tax plan gives even more free money and tax breaks to them too.

I don't work at Sam's. I avoid almost all self-checkouts. Stores can pay me $15 an hour if they want me to check out my own purchases.

Costco has kiosks for ordering food. Order on them and pick up your food. It's better than downloading some app on my phone.

Re: SAM'S CLUB - Changes coming

I have two questions:

1.  Does each business that adopts scan and go require their own app or does one app cover all businesses?

2.  Are all smartphones capable of using the app or only newer ones?

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

Re: SAM'S CLUB - Changes coming

I love the scan and go at Sam's, but it's not for everyone. I wish Costco would have it too.

But some people don't want or can't afford a smartphone.

The Target stores in my area still have self checkout.
