That is Nikita Khrushchev btw and regardless of one's age it is called knowing your history. Not very hard.
As for the insults at any Olympic event the US has done it's share about eastern european athletes for years. Laughable that we should be offended now when it may or may not be done in return to the US and western States.
Absolutely spot on. Years ago, it was always hinted that nearly every Eastern European female athlete was a man according to US commentators. Did some of them use PEDs? A few, yes, but then again so did some in the West. And people think the West does not engage in propaganda. Why else would this article be republished now?
BTW, it annoys the you know what out of me that the NBC coverage never shows the medal ceremony unless an American is on the podium. I'm talking about popular events too. There are many Americans with roots in other countries who would like to see those ceremonies. You can stream them but not everyone has that ability. Just annoying.

ITA. But when I said as much on another thread I was told I was being too touchy about Russia.

The broadcast only has so much time to fill. I don't see everything I'd like to see either. And you also don't see the rest of us whining about our ancestor's not getting top billing on the networks. My maternal grandmother was British so what. We all live in the USA now and we are cheering on our American team.
And yes, Cara, you have been extremely touchy and looking for a fight about Russia ever since the Olympics started.

Agreed. I'm sure that other countries are covering what their athletes do.
We, here in America, are covering what our athletes do.

No you seem h*8** ell bent on criticizing me because I have a different take on Russia and Eastern Europe. I could turn it around and ask you if you like our Gov't as you threw that at me about Russia. That is a loaded question isn't it? I have heard you criticize our gov't but I would not ask you if you like it.
Yes I have family still in Eastern Europe and Russia so yes I do have a different view and find some of the typical stereotypes that Americans make insulting as if it is OK. Not OK.

I have not seen one person here insult the Russian people. Not one. And, in fact, the gov't of Russia is why the people there suffer so. The gov't is what is being criticized....not your family!

Who is whining about "ancestors"??? Wouldn't they be dead anyway? And I'm not talking about taking the focus off the American team. I'm talking about events that they cover heavily but won't show a two minute medal ceremony if there's no American medaling. Very tacky.
As for where we live, some of us are not Americans but we live here, some of us are citizens of the U.S. and another country as well. Does that mean we must ignore the efforts of our other country and watch only the Americans? There could be a semblance of balance in this land of the free and land of immigrants.

Wow. Thank you for the history lesson and the clarification about my family. Too bad you forget that for my defending the people you told me I was being too touchy and asked me if I liked the Russian Gov't. So which is it?

You pick a word for me then if you don't like ancestors

That is not true. It was the same discussion as now. You are all hypersensitive about any criticism of the way things are going over there. I said it is the Russian government that is being criticized not the Russian people. Do you like the Russian Government is what I said before. Stop trying to twist my words.
You are determined to be offended at any criticism of the way things are handled over there.
