Oh no Lynn. Thank you very much for your contribution. I was interested very much in reading it. It did in fact go back on point.

I'm old enough. Have you ever heard the phrase "urban myth" or "urban legend"? It's something that never was but is repeated so often that people swear it happened. They swear they recall when and where it happened! It's like the phenomenon of implanted memories but in this case it's very easy to google and get the truth. It didn't happen but I accept that you and probably millions of others believe it did.

As for being terrified when you heard a jet plane overhead, you must have been a terribly nervous child. I am in my late 50's but I have sibs who were kids back then. They recall air raid drills (liked them because it was time away from class) and were not obsessed with thoughts of being attacked. My parents lived through World War II in Europe and actually describe having a "great" childhood. They say it never entered their heads that Britain might lose the war and, thankfully, their area was not heavily bombed. Most times children survive stressful times much better than adults.

You just plain don't know what you are talking about. Sorry but you are wrong.

It was certainly difficult for many kids during WW2, including many in the UK. Some were shipped off to live with strangers, and others who were Jewish knew of the terror of their families.

Not to mention that the UK was only one area hit in that World War. Children from numerous countries were taken to camps and never got out alive.

Noel, you're obviously an intelligent poster but you do have a tendency to not read precisely what's written and go off on a tangent! I clearly did not say anything about the poor children whose homes were bombed nor especially those on the continent who were Jewish or Romany and sent to camps. I very clearly spoke of my parents and very clearly said their hometown was spared a lot of the misery. I mentioned them as a comparison of children who really had something to fear with scottie's account of being terrified by airplanes in 1950's California because she was afraid of the Reds. I truely feel her parents should have got her some sort of psychological help because the 50's are pretty much recalled by most people as an idyllic time in the U.S.. And it is a fact that children generally (note I say generally and not in every case) deal with stress better than adults. Many times they have little or no memory of what happened when they were 2 or 3 years old and are more adaptable.

ATBS, I have never before heard any American who grew up in the 50's speak of "running to the windows" in terror when a jet plane flew over.

I had not learned this at all. But find the Ameriocan reporters saying pretty bad things about our own athletes, very negative at times and hurtful!

Can't understand them anyway, wish the Olympics were anywhere but Russia.
