Re: Rummage/Garage/Yard/Tag Sales

I love garage sales! I've found a lot of great stuff for my home and my kids.

We lucked out big time when I went to a yard sale and after talking with the sellers found out that that they were remodeling their kitchen of their new home and were getting rid of their stainless steel appliances, cabinets and some marble countertops. They hated what the previous owners had chosen. We got it all for under $6000!!! That really helped us save some serious money for the work our new home needed.

Re: Rummage/Garage/Yard/Tag Sales

I had a garage sale only once, thanks to my wonderful hubby. I went around putting up garage sale signs. so half way threw the garage sale a man comes in and starts knocking on the garage and checking the structure. So I look at my hubby and we shrugged it of then the man says how much, I say how much for what he said a the garage it is a garage sale. My jaw it the ground I looked at my husband like help, so my wonderful hubby said well answer the man give him a price. Well I stood there for what seemed like an hour all confused. Well after me looking foolish they finally busted out laughing, turns out the guy worked for Mu wonderful husband. So to answer your question I stay far away from them. And I will never have a garage sale again

How nice for you!  When we moved into our house, there was a harvest gold refrigerator in the kitchen. We had our own newer refrigerator, so decided to sell that one at our one and only ever garage sale.

i didn't think anyone would want it, but an older lady who lived down the street just had to have it.  That was the biggest ticket item at our sale.  I think she paid $200 for it.

The following winter we had El Niño rains and floods and her home was flooded.  She actually knocked on my door one day to tell me her beautiful refrigerator was ruined and she'd never be able to find one like that again.

@Princesswife. LOL!  They got ya, didn't they?  When anyone asks me to go to a garage or yard sale with them, I say, "No thanks.  I live in an apartment & don't have any place to put a garage or a yard."  Woman LOL

Re: Rummage/Garage/Yard/Tag Sales

We have had garage sales only when we moved from one city to another. When you advertise it as a moving sale, people seem to really flock to the sale. In our ads, we listed some of the larger items. The last time, we did not even price the items. We just let people make offers on things. It was a very successful sale.

Otherwise, we just normally donate items to thrift shops, Goodwill, or whoever. Garage sales are a lot of work, but can be worth it if you have the time to invest.

Used to go a lot, have had a bunch of successful sales, but we need to sell 80% of our stuff before we do a full renovation.

Later this year I'll have a dealer sale for the best items, and then a regular garage sale for the rest.  Other items will go to the Salvation Army, and I'm working on my fifth donation of the year now.

If you don't have enough stuff, you're in a bad location, you make horrible signs...etc., it's not worth the effort.
