An updated family portrait of the King, Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales was released by Buckingham Palace yesterday. The image was taken at the Palace on September 19. Just BEAUTIFUL! ![]()

Lovely

Looks like something Charles engineered, stiff and unimaginative. They should have waited until mourning was over as all the black is depressing and flatters no one.

It is a lovely photo and a great show of "We will carry on and attend to our duty" when that probably wasn't what they would have chosen to do. But it's their job.

Forgive me, but I do wonder about Princess Kate's right hand.
Appears as if she may be squeezing something, but I know I must
be wrong. A Princess wouldn't do that. ![]()
It really is a lovely photo.

Why are they called "portraits" and not photos? I always thought portraits were painted. I've noticed this on other photos of King Charles. Is it a British thing?

King Charles III and his family were pictured the day before Queen Elizabeth II's state funeral and the final farewell to Britain's longest serving monarch.
The King was photographed alongside Camilla, Queen Consort, and the Prince and Princess of Wales at Buckingham Palace ahead of a reception for heads of state on Sept 18.
Dressed all in black and smiling warmly, the family stood shoulder to shoulder before a golden balcony in a show of solidarity as Britain's most senior royals.

The palace reception was a formal occasion for all of the presidents and prime ministers, foreign royals, governors-general and ambassadors who had travelled to London for the funeral.

That single breasted suit is flattering on Charles. Makes him look slimmer.

@grandma2pkmh I'm 74 and very formal photos have been called portraits for as long as I can remember.
I notice Princess Catherine -- who I wish the press would stop calleding "Kate' now -- seems to be touching her husband while William is standing there stiff with his hands in front.
The other two are touching so this just seems odd to me.
