Re: Riots After World Cup Losses

Soccer fans in some countries are known for there intense reactions to losses and wins.  Their behavior in England resulted a name and spawned sociological studies as they were associated with the working class, underemployed, and rowdies.  They were named soccer hooligans and their behavior, hooliganism. The behavior is not as visible as in the 1960s-1980s and occasionally appears in other countries.

Re: Riots After World Cup Losses

I have been a sports fan and participant most of my life. Like others, I don't get the nonsense that happens after a BIG Win, or a BIG Loss. Celebrate a WIN, and tear up things after LOSS.

These Soccer games are being played in Qatar, and it was announced 2 days before the games started, no Beer would be sold during the games. Read up a bit about Qatar and their way of life in that country.

All I will say about this other than:

The U.S. has had plenty of riots after losses and wins in sports. It's not ok anywhere.

Considering the number of people at these various events, sometimes 100,000+ I'm kind of suprised disorder doesn't occur more frequently or maybe it's just not reported.

Many sports fans are fanatics.  As someone already posted, it's only a game but not to those crazies.

I am all my life a big sports fan.  Two games on Thanksgiving and three games yesterday.  I have not seen any of the World Cup but I am keeping up with the US.  If we do not win tomorrow over Iran then we are out.  Have to kick some but.........

They are being  played in an autocratic country.  No alcohol.  Soccer hooligans is usually part of the game.  Not in Qatar.  You can be beheaded for a half a dozen things other than murder.  So you won't see this.  This is a world wide game with nationalistic pride.  Wars have been fought over the game.  Between El Salvadore and Honduras in 1969. The UN had to intervene for a cease fire.  U.S. does not even come close to the passion and blood spilt over a game. Soccer is a game almost each country calls football.  Only a handful countries ignore it.  The U.S. and Australia are two of them.

Cheering and fireworks in Iran because the US defeated their country. Women's revolution in Iran continues. It's a shame that so many people in the US know nothing about it too. Mahsa Amini
