Return Packages Using Uber Instead of Doing It Yourself

The ride-hailing company on Wednesday launched a new “Return a Package” feature that allows users to send up to five prepaid and sealed packages to a nearby post office, UPS or FedEx for a flat $5 fee, or $3 for Uber One members. The service is available on the Uber and Uber Eats apps in nearly 5,000 cities.

I probably wouldn't use it but it could be a boon for those who can't get out or are too busy to waste time on such trial activity or have small children.  A potentially valuable service.

Walmart+ members are eligible for a return to Walmart pickup, but so far the couple of items I wanted to return did not show up as applicable to the program. They seemed to meet the small print definition of eligibility. I didn't pursue it.

I received something from Door Dash that they are doing the same thing.

At what point do we never move from our recliners again?

I was dying laughing at Sherri Shephard's show today with her explaining to the TikTok kids how we used to look things up by asking real people, using the yellow pages, and getting ourselves to the library all while getting from here to there without GPS and Siri with something called a map.

It's amazing how no one has time to do anything anymore, yet we did it all two decades ago without a website and a smartphone and literal drivers at our beck and call.

I have no need for it but I love the idea.  It's a great convenience who need it.

Re: Return Packages Using Uber Instead of Doing It Yourself

I'm glad they put restrictions to where the packages are to be delivered and how they must be packaged.

I recall reading, maybe a year or two ago, where drug traffickers were using Uber and others to deliver drugs.  At the time it was in a major city but I do not remember which one.

A number of drivers had to go through hoops to prove they were not dealing.  I think for a while drivers could no longer do package deliveries.

What is good for the goose today will also be good for the gander tomorrow.

I think it's a great idea
