Restaurants And Cleaning Practices.

DD and I decided to drive to a place that sell fresh pasta and sauces.  It has a few tables but is mostly to go. DD has been there twice before.  A husband and wife own it.

DD was talking to the wife and she remarked about restaurants and the like closing early to clean.  She said they close at 7:00pm but have never left before 10:30pm because they are cleaning. They always have done that, 6 days a week. They are closed Sundays.  She wondered what kind of cleaning these restaurants and such did before all this. She said you can't close at 9 and be out of there at 10.

This place is in a small plaza with other stores including a grocery store. I stayed in the car and watched people with grocery carts.  No huge piles of bags in any carts. The guy next to our vehicle had TP.  It looked like any Saturday morning.

They start shutting sections down earlier than closing and clean as they are shut down.  Same with back of the house.

We are placing ourselves on homebound status. To be consistent, we will not go to restaurants or get takeouts.  I admit, it was a big part of our lives.

Many of our local restaurants are sending out email messages describing how thoroughly they clean their establishments and their stringent health requirements for their employees. Most are small local chains (3 or 4 locations) or single location restaurants. I hope they can survive!

Restaurants should be cleaning after hours but also taking precautions while they’re open to the public. We were in one Friday and the server cleaned off the table with the usual rags, water only. I didn’t notice any soap on it. They also brushed the seat off with the same rag.

Not just now, but always, they should be using Clorox or Lysol pump spray cleaner and wet paper towels.

I don’t care how clean they say they are. They can’t control the customers. I won’t be eating out any time soon and I am surprised that anyone is. But parking lots at restaurants here are pretty full, as usual, so I may be in the minority

It is just common sense.

Re: Restaurants And Cleaning Practices.

This past week I rcvd an email from one of the higher up more prestigious restaurants in towns - this guy owns many here with different venues/menus. We go to one often in particular. His email was letting us know they are all still open and cleaning like mad to keep his crowds still coming in.

We'll hold off for a while.

I read where Starbucks is considering closing the inside store and only opening up the drive thru for customers.

Can't remember the last time I ate out, but it is years. I worked at many restaurants of all kinds during part of grade school and high school, so I have a pretty good idea of how cleaning works. Of course that was not the "age of germaphobia", as it seems to be today.

This however never kept or keeps me from eating out. It has more to do with what I like to eat along with how it is prepared. That and the fact I am "frugal" and would rather spend my money on something more useful than feeding my face.

Some of our restaurants have stopped their salad bars. We ate out last night. It was early and five out of fifteen tables were taken. The bar was only a quarter full.
