I do think there are some older people who hit ""reply to all"" and don't really realize this. This happened with my mom and she didn't even realize she was doing it because she is not really computer savvy at all.

Never use reply to all. If I forward any e-mails that contain others e-mail addresses? I always delete them before forwarding any e-mail. Many of my friends are doctors and some of them do not want their e-mail addresses or other contact information to be shared by others.

If someone, anyone, asks me for contact information to one of my doctor friends, I always forward that e-mail to that doctor and let him decide what he wants to do from there. I leave the person that asks e-mail address on it so the doctor is able to know where to contact that person if he so wishes. Also notify the sender of the e-mail telling them my policy about passing on contact information on certain people that I know.

John, surely you know that a doctor isn't going to just "put out" his e-mail for everyone to see. If he does, then he doesn't care anyway. I would guess it's a throw-away addy.

When a doctor gives you his cell phone number, trust me, it's not his real number. It's a cell phone number for patients only. Then, he has another phone for all others.

{#emotions_dlg.w00t} Hey - I resemble that remark...... No, not really. But, there are also some younger people who do that too. I think they just aren't thinking because they are too busy texting at the same time..... {#emotions_dlg.ohmy}

sophiamarie,

When the doctors I know give me their cell phone numbers it is their real cell phone number. Doctors that play in my adult hockey league understand there are times I need to inform them of changes in schedule and other hockey related issues, thus their numbers are the real thing. They also know and trust my judgement for using them for medical reasons to contact them.

When my mother-in-law broke her hip last December and one of my friends is an Orthpod that specializes in knee/hip repair and replacement? You think he gave me a phony number? I will answer that for you because as soon as I heard this news, which was on a Saturday afternoon, I called his cell phone number and he advised me what should be done for my mother-in-law.

Same with my personal doctors that take care of my health, many of which are also personal friends, but not all of them. They also give me their real cell phone numbers because they are certain I will not pass them along to others without their consent.

Maybe your doctors or others you know give you fictitious cell phone numbers, but believe me the ones given to me by doctors are given to me so I can reach them at any time. Why? Because they trust me and my judgement. Your experience with doctors is obviously much different than mine.

Saying the above, "trust me", it is the real thing with me, but maybe not for you.

Instead of ""real"" - I should have said ""personal"" and ""business""..... but I thought you were intelligent enough to figure that out.

I hope I gave you enough time for your blood pressure to come back to normal.

I was on someone's mailing list that I never met who lived out of state and all because she was friends with a relative of my husband. I was receiving the strangest emails practically every day about people and their kids and their pets. So, I emailed my husband's relative and asked her to take care of it for us as it was getting ridiculous. It finally stopped. I then was on another mailing list from someone at my husband's work. He too found the emails annoying and that too finally stopped.

ITA: odd that someone other than a 'friend' or workout buddy would have their doctor's personal cell. Why would an everyday patient have that info? And can you imagine the harassment that poor dr would have w/ crazy questions & general nuttery some people have...even on a good day? Ooof. I would guarantee they segregate their calls from the general public.

Someone started doing that to me several years ago and I finally had to block their emails totally. I told them I didn't feel well and was going to stay off the computer for a while. Then in a few weeks I got back on that screen name and it had stopped.
