The drain in Rep. Gabrielle Giffords' brain was removed on Wednesday prior to her transfer from a Houston hospital's intensive care unit to a rehabilitation center. Doctors at Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center Hospital said this was more good news for the congresswoman, who has been on a steady recovery path since arriving in Houston on Friday. With the removal of the catheter, Giffords is now ready to begin a full rehabilitation program. We may soon hear the congresswoman's voice, too: Doctors plan to insert a speaking valve in her breathing tube to help her talk.
