@Mz iMac Oh boy, I feel for you and I know my day is coming - I need to check if that day is this year or what. It's every 4 years here and I took a decent picture I think in 2010. You can tell by my avatar, I'm pigment challenged so when I go to the DMV, I'm so painted up, I look like I could be on 'foot patrol' but it's what I have to do to avoid looking like a corpse in the picture.
I renewed by mail I believe in 2014 and kept the same picture. The next one, I have to show up in person.

Isn't it fun ? My most recent experience at renewing my license, after waiting an hour, I was told there was a warrant out for my arrest because I never paid a traffic ticket from eight years ago. You wouldn't believe what it took to prove that I did indeed pay the fee eight years ago, and somehow, they never documented that I paid it !!
What. A. Freaking. Nightmare.

Guess we are lucky in Pennsylvania. Our state has been dragging their feet for a dozen years on the Real ID/drivers' license issue and they still are. Just read the following "PennDOT estimates REAL ID compliant driver licenses and identification cards will be available by March 2019." Guess if we want to fly or go into a federal building we'll need to have a passport. Luckily I have one.

@Mz iMac I feel yout pain !
I am also from NJ. The only good thing is when it comes time in 4 more years to renew,
DMV will send you a skip the trip renewal notice~~yay!
Can be done online.

@Mz iMac One more thing, once when I was at the DMV in Lodi, the employees were asking us while standing in line, "what's your immigration status". The guy standing next to me said "refugee"..... LOL only in NJ !!

I never heard of anything so crazy (points). Thank goodness we don't need points in Illinois. All my information is in the computer. ![]()

They let me renew my ID by mail recently but I had to get all of the points ready just in case I had to go there.
I just made the 6 points by the skin of my teeth.
I was so happy you would have thought I won the lottery when my new ID came in the mail.
Going through the house singing I got my ID I got my ID while doing the Cabbage Patch.![]()
That is an old dance from a galaxy far away.

I sympathize with you - esp the NJ DMV (no love lost for them!)
So 7 years ago I move to FL (which I might say they have a very efficient system at least in our County). I brought all necessary documents (I already did it in NJ the year before moving here) only to find out my last name was not available through the government database! I was a unknown person.
worse part I already did the point thing in NJ and was surrendering to get FL license...yet still couldn't get it!!!
After 2 days of trying to prove, including I had passport, marriage & birth certificate, SS card, SS printout, closing papers, utility, etc. I met all the document requirements!! All had my full legal name as I knew it!
Long story I finally had a "meltdown" in the DMV!!!! They called a sheriff officer & supervisor. After 10 minutes, the supervisor said "ma'am that is not your last name - I researched your paperwork through NJ DMV. Whose name is ? I said that was my maiden name. She said "The NJ DMV entered your name: first maiden-last name.
Therefore, we need to use this documentation as registered with NJ.
No lie: every piece of mail, voter registration, medical cards, SS, FL DL, registration, Rx cards, and more.
if I call a dr., insurance company, etc. I give my last name and they say "sorry we don't have this name"....
Thanks to NJ DMV my new identity is: first maiden last
(the person who entered the info used my maiden name as my middle name😳🙄).
(I even forget I have a new name!)
Interestingly, I had to go to SS office. They only recognized me by my "new name" although previously everything was first last name. Even my pension check now reflects the payee as my "new" name since I got my FL license!!!
Its amazing how 1 mistake by a clerk can change your identity ...now I'm used to it after 7 years!!!
