Just returned from N.J. DMV and I am so exhausted!!!
Why at my age do I still have to prove that I am a U.S. citizen by showing them documents up the wazoo??????? And those documents better add up to 6 points.
I spent 10 minutes going through my home safe & 1 hour scouring through my safety deposit box looking for "documents" that I couldn't find in the "safe."
Get to the DMV & I am #4 at window 8. 45 minutes in, I am still #4.
#1 documents did not add up to 6 pts. Arguing w/the clerk. State Police officer standing there hand on gun.
I told #3 to hold my spot while I go to the ladies room.
Returned to find #3 in the exact same spot.
1 1/2 hours later, I am finally at the window. Hand over my documents I only had 5 points. I explained to the clerk, they should use the same documents I provided when the point system was first implemented some years ago. I was a "legal" U.S. citizen then & I still am. My sex has not changed either. The only difference now is my age & new address.
Clerk starts adding my document points. I had over 6 points. A valid SS card is worth a few points. I kept my mouth shut until I was asked to remove my glasses & smile for my photo. I had to stall them for a few seconds to take my nasal spray med. I felt a migraine attack trying to show itself. If that had of happened, the State Trooper would have had every reason to use that pistol of his. I was spent!!!
For years, I would always renew by mail. The picture guy told me I had to update my pic. Glasses are no longer allowed on driver ID photos.
Now I have a "mug shot" photo showing a drug induced smile. My long hair looks good though. My devil horns (white stripes) are showing prominently.

Going to eat dinner now-Italian Hoagie, salty Philly pretzel w/hot mustard for desert, tall glass of brewed ice tea & afterwards take a long power nap.
6 pts documents

I have many of the one point documents that you can only use two of. Not so many of the higher-point ones. LOL
Was never in the military. So all those points went bye bye for me.
I was born overseas and my parents lost my birth certificate. If I can't find it, will my DNA suffice do you think?
I don't live in NJ, but all this is coming my way if it isn't here already. Kind of a sad commentary....

I wonder what docs illegal aliens need to show in order to get DL's in states that allow it.

I feel your pain- what an awful experience! I understand but your descriptions were so funny!
Have a lovely nap-you've deserved it!

I live in NJ and in the last few months had to renew my license in person and register my leased vehicle which I had purchased. Both times I had no wait. There was a gentleman after me who said he comes down from Bergen County to avoid that rat race.

Feel free to exchange that glass of iced tea for a good, stiff cocktail, you deserve it!

What a nightmare! No wonder you’re exhausted. Ugh, DMV is not my favorite place and it makes me wonder what I’ll face upon renewal. Enjoy your comfort foods and your nap. You deserve it. Hopefully you won’t have to do this again for a while.

@Mz iMac, I live in NYC and just renewed my license. I was able to do it by mail, sent in the renewal card, proof of eye test from my ophthalmologist, and check, that's it! The DMV doesn't make you come in to do this, I have had the same photo for eons!

@Mz iMac I know exactly what you are talking about.
I have been to the DMV in Hazlet a few times, and it wasn't terrible.
I have also been to the one in Edison on Kilmer. That one was not good.
