Re: Remember When QVC Offered Many Brands And Styles?

For the last few yrs, QVC's unit sales have been down every quarter.

All management needs to do is read these boards to know why this is happening.  Obviously buying less from QVC is happening across the board and not just the people who participate on these forums.

I miss a lot of brands, great post! I miss the Birkenstock & Chinese Jade shows as others mentioned, too. Also, I never see an entire Doll 10 hour or Eclissi watches anymore either, but they do come on with one item in some shows. I also miss Suspicion marcasite. I don't see the Motto clothing line, but recent shows of shirts that always cover "guts and butts" keeps me away!

It's a bummer that it's pretty much only D&B bags only now, no more The Sak, which I liked, and Kipling they only had on twice. I had heard Kathy Van Zealand is sold at Walmart now, not sure if that's true? I personally can't afford a $400 bag, but I'd pay $85 which I do at other places since Q's limited line ups don't fit me anymore.

(Edited to add Doll 10 is on tomorrow, but it has been a long time since she got a full hour.)

Re: Remember When QVC Offered Many Brands And Styles?

I remember there were many different items shown during shows but the same shows were on the same days... Friday Night Gems, for example, would be every Friday Night but you would NEVER see the same item week to week. Now, it's the same item during the same show every few DAYS.

I know many complain about the prices (I have at times) but I am also willing to pay more for a high quality item. I rarely see them here so I shop at HE department stores. If QVC brought HIGH quality items at a FAIR price, I would jump on it and I think other customers would too. BUT... often a line starts out high quality and then goes down the toilet....I've  seen that more and more.

I don't know... I want HE items and a price that is fair AND is made well. I can find that elsewhere, why can't QVC deliver it too? Me thinks they don't want to and instead, want to go with whatever sells the largest amount of stuff. That stuff doesn't really interest me, especially when it's all they ever show.

I've posted this before, but I think the idea to present more items on TV (as opposed to their just being on the website) is EXCELLENT. Shake things up a bit, QVC!

What gets me is that if you look on the websites of QVC, HSN and Evine and pick a category such as Fashion and do a "See all brands", probably a couple hundred brands are listed.

Sometime I'll pick a brand I've not heard of just to look and see what it's about and it's really cute or different!

It would be nice to devote 1/2 or 1 hour to one of these brands to mix it up!

I so agree with you about all the items in inventory that never get air time. I brought this up a while back on a thread somewhere, lol, can't remember the title of the thread. Suggested that it would be nice if maybe once a week/once or twice a month for an hour show, to air products that are in the warehouses, no matter if there is not a huge quantity, it would be nice to see these items. They could clear out the warehouses and we could see something that is not shown into infinity. Another poster said it was not cost effective to air these things. I say how does Q make money off of things that sit in inventory forever due to no air time? Majority of people don't go in search of stuff they don't even know the Q carries in stock, or I don't anyway. And YES I do remember when they shared airtime with lots of brands.

I find myself shutting QVC off more often than ever - I agree with what you're saying.

I'm not sure what their marketing goals are these days, but it's not working for me. I also think their price point has changed/risen considerably. I understand the designer merchandise, but not many of the other items.

However, I will say I like the little clips that show between segments. They're quiet and nice to look at - not offensive advertising.

Re: Remember When QVC Offered Many Brands And Styles?

I found QVC by accident during some midnight feedings when my daughter was an infant. That was 28 years ago. The selections were so much better and variety was great. No one hour shows on a particular item. Nice variety of jewelry, especially love their silver, and the prices were reasonable. I loved the kitchen shows also. Now we are lucky if we see five different items in an hour and they all seem to be repeats from the last few years. Just not the same anymore. Change is good, but not when it goes in the wrong direction.

Re: Remember When QVC Offered Many Brands And Styles?

I agree. My closets still contain beautiful clothing from the old Designer days. Those were my favorite! Sarah Campbell and Mark Bouwer(sp?) were favorites of mine. I have 3 Lori Griener silver safe keepers with jewelry from the old silver style days and Ripka when it was affordable and a good value. I still have some Motto pieces ans some Dialogue pieces. I have a pair of weekend pants from Sports Savvy that are just now getting worn out.

My wardrobe, including shoes, is still mostly QVC brands, but older than 5 years for the clothing.

Nowadays, my purchases from QVC are limited to Wen, D&B and footwear. I found Evine's jewelry to be a much better value and I am liking the clothing from HSN and TJ Maxx.
