I remember back in 2nd thru 4th grade we would spend art class decorating our own Valentine boxes out of shoe boxes. Was so much fun.

The school I attended celebrated Valentines day by everyone in the class making their own Valentine box and we gave cards to every peron in our class. We'd go to Woolworths to buy stuff to decorate our boxes and mostly bought packs of Valentine cards . If any student showed up without their box or cards the Teacher had a few at the ready.

Very cute and artsy Valentine box !
I made a Valentine box last yr with my Grandson that replicated a 1980's boom box
@skatting44 WOW! That's quite ambitious! I'll bet it looked great. I had no idea they were doing these fantastical Valentine boxes these days. We used to use leftover Christmas wrapping or even tin foil. ![]()

We actually found a little kit at Hobby Lobby that had decals decorated to glue on to help it look like a boom box , however instead of the cardboard paper in the kit we used a sturdy shoe box and added additional glue on items . He's the only one who had a decorated box, most of his classmates had the decorated bags . Guess, not to many remember as I do what we did in the late 1950's & early 1960's.

I went to a parochial school and our class size was small. I remember you either made or bought a valentine for everyone in the class.
My mom would buy a box of valentines and I would sign each one and put the name of each classmate on the envelope. On Valentines Day we would walk around the classroom and lay the valentine on each classmates desk.
We only had about 15 students so it didn't take very long to distribute each one.
I always liked my school because each person that I started 1st grade with was with me all the way to the 8th grade. We occasionally had someone move from the area or someone else moved into the area, but mostly it was always the same kids.

ONE BIG BOX WHERE WE ALL MAILED OUR CARDS -- THEN SOMEONE WAS DESIGNATED TO BE THE MAILMAN -- THIS HAPPENEDD TWICE A YEAR: CHRISTMAS AND VALENTINE'S PARTY DAYS!
It saddened me when in 6th grade all these fun and games stopped.
Granddaughter in preschool and K had an individual box that friends stuffed their cards or little presents into. I think that individual box or pouch is more prevalent now, instead of the one big box.
Good memories!

I started grade school in the late 50's and we had one large Valentine's box for the class and everyone got valentines. They were made with crepe paper, construction paper , doilies and glitter.

My Grandkids also make St Patrick's Day boxes and the leprechaun always makes a mess with a candy and tricks trail leading them to the pot of gold.(their own bag of treats) It's so much fun
