Guess what? These are still a thing. My DD said she and my granddaughter were busy making a Valentine box for Kindergarten. I remember doing that back in the 50's. We used construction paper or wrapping paper over a shoebox and put them on our desks on Valentine's day. They have become a bit more elaborate, but they are still a thing. Who knew? Here's her box:

I remember we made these envelope holders for Valentine cards when I was in school.

My Mom was always the mom that made those so I could take them to school.

I find things like this very sad especially for the less popular kids in class

That is beautiful! I don't remember Valentine boxes. I was born in the late 50s. Your post brought back a memory. Probably 1st and 2nd grade we did things much simpler. We all taped a brown paper lunch bag to the front of our desks. We walked around and put Valentine's Day cards in everyone's bag. It was important that everyone in the class got cards from everyone, whether you liked them or not.

I misunderstood your post. Sorry We (at my school) would have a large one for us to put Valentines for kids to sorta "mail". Mom would make that large one.

That is adorable. I don't remember Valentine's Boxes though.
When I was in school and when my kids were in school, everyone got a Valentine's, nobody was excluded.

I had a fourth grade teacher who told the students that if they brought cards it was for everyone or don't bring any cards.
