@henderson. That's what I was going to ask, old news or did it happen again?

Sort of off topic but I don't think any 911 tapes should be released unless they are part of an investigation and are cleared by a panel.

It breaks my heart to hear people screaming for help for themselves or a loved one in a dire situation and it's played on the nightly news for the amusement (certainly not the "need to know!") of their viewers.  To me this is shameful as well.

I wish we could do something about this.

I blame the media for invading people's privacy.  They exploit everything they can.  They care not for accuracy or people's privacy.  We live in fishbowls.  It is sad where we have come to be.

Re: Remember Randy Travis?

[ Edited ]

How odd that they would release a tape that was 4 years old....

I saw he and his wife in an interview a few months ago..He had some serious health issues and also a massive stroke (probably which alcohol habits contributed)........He could barely talk......very sad.....

My understanding is that the attorneys for Randy Travis sued the state of Texas to keep the video sealed. It took this long for litigation and Mr. Travis lost.

@JaneMarple

So this is what my state (Texas Dept Of Public Safety) wasted money on--- battling this in court (and lining the wallets of attorneys no doubt) because they wanted a 4 year old video unsealed......SMH!!!    I am not defending what Travis did and no one is more against drinking/driving than me.....but come on won't people say ---hey that happened 5 years ago...old news........And I think this state has more pressing needs then unsealing a video......

Randy broke the law, and this is a matter of public record. He threatened the police and is lucky he didn't get shot. He thinks he deserves special treatment because he's a celebrity.

This statement from his rep is ridiculous: "Randy Travis is well-known to be a loving, caring person who is respectful of everyone, a video that shows anything otherwise only underscores that he was absolutely not himself. Randy is deeply apologetic for his actions that evening. A man of integrity with a good heart, Randy does not and will never condone these types of actions that distort the true beliefs of Randy Travis and his entire family.”

I love how they are trying to distance him from his actions as if someone else committed them. lol. He is basically more worried about his reputation than what he did.

I don't buy for one second that this was "out of character" for him or that he is otherwise a caring or respectful person. Alcohol doesn't turn you into someone you're not -- it reveals who you are.The fact that he let it get this far tells me he makes a habit out of drinking and driving. He just finally got caught.

Giggle. So true.

You won the Internet today.

👍

Giggle? Really? You think that's funny?

Sorry, but humiliating someone just because you can is never funny.

I don';t think he thought much of anything at the time.  I don't excuse driving drunk, I don't even excuse drinking until one gets drunk and acting the fool, but I do have compassion for people who become addicted to substances because to me it means they have some horrible issues they can't live with, maybe abuse in the past. Don't know. But people who end up in the gutter deserve some compassion and help.

And this was shown BECAUSE he is a celebrity and well known. If some unknown person did the same thing, the media would not rush to put it out there for the world to see. They are exploiting his celebrity status in this case. And from every story I've read on this from here to FB feeds, 99% of those commenting are disgusted with the media, not Randy. It served no purpose whatsoever to humiliate him or subject his family to this either.
