@on the bay @smoochy    The tea room at Gimbels was so special.  White tablecloths, lunch with nana, going downtown on the bus......I was very young.  All dressed up, we always dressed up, a hat, gloves or a muff.  Some great memories of fine dining (to me!) My nana would get us tea sandwiches, she would get coffee or tea, and we would get a coke or a hot chocolate. A special treat.   We would also look at three department store Christmas windows.  So magical!  And great memories for my sister and I.

yes the downtown dept store windows were elaborate, some had animated displays. Going there on the bus...my sister and I fought over who would get to pull the cord when our stop came up 😁 it's fun to read about your experience, so similar to mine. I always wanted a furry muff.

My mother's wedding china was from the Vogue theater; every Thursday was "china night" and you got a piece with each movie ticket. I think she saw a lot of movies!  My grandmother liked "china oats" that had a pressed-g;ass dish or juice glass inside the box. The detergent she used had towels or washcloths in them. Scratchiest things I ever felt. So many products had premiums in them back then in the fifties and sixties.

We would drive around and look at Christmas lights and decorations several times a season.  Also, we would go to the airport to watch planes land and take off.  I have great memories of doing things as a family.  On Christmas Eve, my dad would take us to McDonalds (Santa always came while we were out).  We rarely ate out, so McDonalds AND Christmas in the same day was pretty great.  Late 60's!  Our summer pool pass I think was 7.00.  Great fun for the whole summer!

@lynnie61 Welcome!🥰 I can imagine the excitement of going to McDonald's and then seeing the beautiful Christmas lights and festive decorations!😊

DUZ detergent would have various glassware in the box.  We still have a set that my mother collected.

@bells4me Welcome!🥰 I, too, enjoyed going to the beach during spring and summer months. We took the bus several times per week during hot summer months and complained when the price jumped to a quarter one way!😂

It was SO much fun going Grunion hunting  during the evening when in season.❤️ It was was a BIG event for us!🥰
