I wouldn't have a problem with it, but I'd rather just go into the store with my debit card and nothing else. I think their "solution" will help, but it's not going to solve the problem. Shoplifters that are caught need to be handled by the police, especially repeat offenders; store security needs to be able to do their job and not let shoplifters go; and store cameras need to be placed everywhere in full view. When shoplifters are allowed to get away with theft, they have nothing to lose and will keep doing it.

For those concerned about leaving a purse in a locker at the front of the store, remove the phone and wallet and carry them in a pocket.

The way I see it is having lockers in a store will only create a new type of crook...a locker thief. They'll figure out a way to take the whole cake. Lockers and all.

In our community police won't even respond to calls from stores about shoplifting unless the goods taken amount to many thousands of dollars. And they absolutely refuse to respond to any calls at all from Wal-Mart since Wal-Mart at one point was phoning police at least once an hour. That's because the police force in our city, like most city police forces these days, is under-funded and understaffed.
And then there's the district attorney. They don't bother prosecuting most shoplifters because it's time and money intensive to do so, and they also lack the resources.
And as for store security... Small stores can't afford security. At large stores security guards have to be careful. Our local Macy's has had problems with fleeing shoplifters beating up security personnel that have tried to stop them.

Somehow, a bank of lockers does not seem like a solution. Creates even more issues.
BYOP = bring your own padlock???

It isn't necessary to take a large purse when you are shopping and it just gets in your way. Just take what you really need in a small purse and leave your large purse with makeup, etc at home. Seems simple enough to me.
I don't know the answer to shoplifting except enforcement but that is not going to happen for various reasons so anything that a store can do (such as small purses) to curb some of their losses makes sense.
There is no need to take everything but the kitchen sink in a big bag when you need to be hands free and unemcumbered when shopping anyway.

@SilleeMee @I've been thinking the same thing.

@Kachina624 That was my first thought. The store sells furniture, lamps, rugs and curtains. So how is banning large purses going to stop theft? It almost sounds like a joke.
I carry an average size purse. I have never been in a store where I have been asked to leave my purse in a locker. I would not do this. I would just leave the store.

All a person would have to do is carry a small crossbody purse or a wristlet.
I wouldn't want to go to the trouble of putting my bag in a locker; I'd rather just carry the smaller bag.
It's not that big a deal. They're trying to prevent being robbed blind.

One thing I have experienced and I know I hate is things being locked behind Plexiglass doors.
Our local Walmart has the entire cosmetics section locked behind them and that is really annoying and makes it unshoppable.
You literally have to look from a distance, ring a bell and wait for someone to come unlock it and they stand there and watch you while you look and decide...no thank you!
So, like someone else said earlier (forgive me I forget) I'd rather use a smaller bag to shop then have everything locked up.
Weird world now, necessary evil unfortunately.
