@lolakimono

i really want to know about him and how he fares!

I could cry because of this young man's talent for life possibly going down the tubes!

Our country NEEDS minds like this!

I WANT TO SCREAM 'WAKE UP PEOPLE!" everywhere.

Thank you for taking the extra time and making the extra effort to help him.

I will return here to this discussion and read and followup.❤️

@LTT1

✅ FAFSA completed

✅ one college visit completed (this is a 4 year school that has an accelerated 3-2 professional program)

✅ shadow day with local architect scheduled

✅ one of the deputy superintendents is lining up a personalized visit to the community college, which has an architecture program, to meet with their program director.  He might be able to get a full ride there, with completion of the program (and recommendation of the director) there are three partner schools he could transfer to with a full ride to those schools.

✅ Seal of Biliteracy earned (and I received the certificate until he graduates and it is listed on his diploma)

✅ World Language scholarship completed

✅ Masons' scholarship completed

✅ Senatorial scholarship completed

✅ Service portal account established (for tracking the mandatory 75 hours of community service)

✅ his application is still under review.  Apparently the university app that he did in November was not processed, so he didn't hear back by Feb. 15 for "early" decision.  They do rolling admissions, so it could take another four weeks to get a decision.  One counselor (and alum) might be able to get him into the Honors College (deadline was in November).

He is working on the delegate scholarship, the Rotary scholarship, and a latino trucking scholarship that I found.

You have done a lot of work for this deserving young man! My hat is off to you, because you are functioning as his "in loco parentis."

His will go far under your purview, of that I'm sure.

Does he have transportation to his classes?

This is a student that should not be overlooked.
Would you please let me know if there is anything I can do?💙

If it would be appropriate, please tell him that you know of a lady (and others) who want him to succeed.🏆🥰😎

Re: Relationships Matter (Long)

@LTT1

He has an older Toyota with about 180K miles.

This is a reason why I would like him to get a full ride to the 4 year school, where he could live on campus (about 45 minutes away, depending on traffic) and he would not "need" a car.  If he had to work, it would probably be a work study thing on campus, or weekends "at home."

If he goes to the CC, he will need to get a newer car in the not too distant future.  It's at the point where the amount he would need to put into it to keep it running is probably not worth it if he could start over.

Up next will be to get him a new suit that fits.  He's a tall dude and has outgrown the one from last year's dance.  He will need it for some of the awards I think, depending on the organization.

@lolakimono It honestly brings tears to my eyes. We all need at least one person to believe in us the way you believe in him. I'm sure his confidence is soaring because of all you are doing. Through your posts here I care so much about him too, and that is a special rare quality-to be able to inspire that in others. ❤

@LTT1

He set up his job shadow and went to work on Wednesday with the architect that I had put him in contact with.  She gave him valuable advice, like the need for business classes as part of running a successful architecture firm.  He also said she told him to put together a portfolio, and as is typical with him (burying the lede) at the end of our conversation he mentioned that she had offered him a JOB!

In other news, it's a good thing that we visited the one school in February, because they are closed.  We were in talks for a visit to the community college, to meet with the program director there, but they are also closed.  Hopefully they can still work from home and someone will send him an acceptance letter soon!

@lolakimono

thank you for the update

you read my mind! Was wondering about him during this CV crisis

how wonderful that he was offered a job

speaking of "burying the lede" he must be a very humble, non-braggy person too...

a job like that at this point will be pure gold on his resume like close to having an apprenticeship!

CONGRATULATIONS to both of you!
what a wonderful, inspiring story! 🥳

@lolakimono  That's awesome, I hope in spite of everything that's going on now he can continue the steps and it will all work out for him.

I honestly think this is the best thread I've ever read here. The positivity of it helps me too ❤

Re: Relationships Matter (Long)

Some happy news to share! Cat Very Happy

My star student just received his acceptance letter to the college that we visited, and admission into their Honors College.  I'm hoping that while they are working online, he will start to see his financial aid package come together.
