Some happy news to share! Cat Very Happy

My star student just received his acceptance letter to the college that we visited, and admission into their Honors College.  I'm hoping that while they are working online, he will start to see his financial aid package come together.

This is truly wonderful news. Hoping he gets the maximum aid.

You exemplify the word  "teacher". If it wasn't for you, he would not have gone to college.You have changed his life and his family.

Teachers rarely get recognized for their good work. I know that acceptance letter was your reward but know that you are applauded here.

More happy news! Cat Very Happy

My star student was notified that he won the language scholarship that we worked on together.  (This is how I got sick in February, using HIS computer to help him edit the essay).

There is one winner, district wide, and it was for $6,000.  Not bad for three hours of work (and of course all of HIS work in his classes).

Re: Relationships Matter (Long)

Another update (and a special request)-Heart

I got an email from my student, who was notified that he is a finalist for a 10K scholarship, and the Zoom interviews are on Thursday.  He asked if I had any advice.Cat Happy

I had a "vision" that I know someone who could help us practice his interviewing skills, since we weren't able to practice before school closed.  I emailed him some things that I thought he should mention, and I contacted this special person.  She is a retired principal from the district, and I know her because she is the supervisor of my teacher intern.  I thought she would be good because she is a former English teacher, she certainly is familiar with the scholarship process, and she is a "stranger" to my student, so he could experience some nervousness before the "real" interview.

Today was our mock interview.  I hosted the video call, and she and I decided that she would just "dig in" with the questions to see how he did.  I recorded the call, so I was able to take notes as he spoke and watch his facial expressions.  Then we gave him feedback.  I'm grateful that she was able to coach him, because I think he'll do a much better job now that he has an idea of how to "sell" himself.  He's such a humble dude that I hope he doesn't get overlooked in person, because the committee can see that he is amazing on paper.

If you are so inclined, could you send positive vibes out for him on Thursday?  This scholarship can be renewed for next year, so it's really 20K at stake. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

I believe in the power of positivity, so with Covid-19 shuttering many campuses, I need him to see that going away to a 4 year college IS possible and that he CAN pay for it.  🌞

@lolakimono  Fingers crossed. This would be a great "teacher appreciation" gift . Have you considered a "Go Fund Me " account for him?

@Zaimee

That's a good idea, but I think it would be frowned upon by my district.
