I'm thinking/guessing that cats have sensed all kinds of things re: their owners and/or their close pet friends.

'More or less', 'Right or wrong', 'In general', and 'Just thinking out loud ' (as usual).

I think the thing that triggered the question, was the kitty and your realization that kitty was like a karmic momship of sorts-I wondered if (although I read your previous posts) if you believed to some extent, that there, might be/could be, a "reincarnation" of sorts. Which is comforting within itself.

Ah...if that was your basic question, then yes, I do believe we might well be here for a reason, and that it might include coming back until we learn life lessons. I'm not sure how I feel about the human reincarnating as animal thing. That's a lot to believe - but we can't know, so... ;-) As far as cats reincarnating from cat to cat...not somewhere my mind has especially gone, but why not?

Yes, that's where I was going with that-

I guess my mind also questioned whether you felt that the "energy" of your previous kitty lived on in a sense-any sense-either away from you or continued on through your new kitty. Which lead me to think reincarnation.

Though it doesn't apply to my question; I'm not certain I believe that human energy transfers to animal energy, animal to human,  with respect to reincarnation-but it isn't something I know enough about-

In short, no, I don't believe that a new kitty is my deceased kitty reincarnated. And I have not had any "lived on" experience.  But I have read that for various reasons, people have felt that cats (or dogs) they acquired years (decades) later were reincarnations of animals that had been gone for some time. I'm not one to say never, but I have never experienced "instant" reincarnation with very next pet.

There isn't one answer, one single belief with one group of tenets among the different religions and sects & denominations that believe in reincarnation. In the same way that there are (sometimes major) differences in doctrine between sects in Islam, and denominations in Xtianity and Judaism, there are different beliefs about reincarnation. Some groups believe it's only between humans, some believe animals are included.

@Noel7...I have seen a ghost cat! Unfortunately it wasn't one of my own beloved cats. I've mentioned this on the boards before but here goes again-Smiley Happy We used to own a 2 family house and we had the downstairs apartment and my sister was upstairs. One night I was hanging out upstairs at my sisters and out of the corner of my eye I saw a tabby cat come out of her bedroom and walk up the hallway. I went out in the hall and it was gone. I kind of shrugged it off like Larry Tate in Bewitched, but mentioned it to my sister who said she had seen a ghost cat up there before. The woman who had lived in the apartment before my sister had a bunch of cats and I think dogs too. Somebody obviously hadn't moved on yet. I'm pretty level headed, but I know what I saw-it was clear as day and not ghostly or filmy loooking. Just looked like a regular cat. I have some good friends who had a beloved himilayan (sp?) that they would hear meow around the house after she died.

@daisyk

I love that story, especially the bit about Larry Tate, LOL.

I've seen our cat, who had passed, the same way you did, as clear as day but also out of the corner of my eye.

Thanks for sharing that 😊

Who is Cathy Byrd that the average person would want to read her memoir?

Oh, well........Forget the salmon.  But, the neighbors' dogs sure know ahead of time when their owners are on their way home.  No matter what time (all hours of the day and night), etc.  Roughly a half hour before they arrive home from events, vacations, day or two outings, etc.  I'm sure many other owners' neighbors (or Web cameras, gadgets, etc.) have experienced this.  In other words, We couldn't be the only ones.

I'm sure that the dogs could hear the owners were close by.

They learned the sound of the vehicle, keys, voices, etc.

In my circumstance they don't hear the sound of the car because my husband is to far away-I do think they pick up on me doing certain things that are relative to his return-Like running around the house like a crazy person attempting to get things done-which I wouldn't normally do-

With respect to the last illness-before I managed to get myself to the doctor I was in bed sick for two weeks-the dogs never left me, became obsessed with smelling my nose, attempting to lift my lips, and sleeping over and on top of my entire upper body-Not comfortable when you can't breathe-

When I did get to the hospital, I had a pretty severe sinus infection, the dogs most likely smelled, a large abscess in my mouth, the dogs most likely smelled infection, had an oxygen level of 62  and was diagnosed with stage 3 COPD-

We can't know what an animal knows really-they can be very intuitive without any type of training at all-

My doctor actually told me he has had many patients who have related similar stories. Said he told them the same thing he told me, "maybe you should pay attention to your dog."

I really think that GOD can,and will use all things to let us know about our loved ones that have passed,  because it has happened to me, when my husband was very sick with cancer i asked him one day that if he would send me a message that he was okay when he passed, he said if i can, he knew i had received messages from God before about our son,at this point durning his sickness, i was very concerned that he might not make it to heaven, actally it was driving me crazy with worry, won't go into details, but about  aweek after he passed, my son, dil, grandkids, and one of my dogs were walking in a place mike and i took the dogs to walk, this was the end of april,a big black and white butterfly flew around me circled and flew away, i knew it was a sign,i had had butterflies, deer  other messages  in animal forum. My dil saw the butterfly, she wondered if it was a sign from mike.

God comforted me when my husband died by letting me know that friends who were visiting heard him say, "I'm ready to go"!
