Sometimes I have it, sometimes I don't. This year, I think I had someone who was new to giving shots, do mine. She kept telling me to "relax", but I think she was the nervous one. I noticed she pinched up my upper arm quite a bit before giving the injection. I actually couldn't sleep on that side for two nights. Worst shot pain ever....

september.....the woman pinched my upper arm this time too. My arm hurt for a couple days and nights but have to say it wasn't the worst shot pain ever for me....that would be the shot I had 10 years ago.

I was told by a pharmacist at Walgreens that they are the biggest buyer of flu vaccine and yet do not carry intradermal; they surmised that doctor offices would not carry it either. You should be able to get one from your local health department. The flu shot I obtained had no preservatives and all intradermal shots also have no preservatives. If I decide to get a flu shot next year I will go to the health department for a intradermal shot.

My first flu shot in about 10 years and yes, my arm ached for a couple days although much less than previously. I do not have a compromised immune system, thankfully, but obtained the shot this year due to having to take my stepmom to her various doctor appointments, i.e. podiatrist, general practitioner as well as dentist during the flu season....don't like being around sick people! My stepmom refuses the flu shot every year! I don't recall that she was ever sick with the flu.....colds, yes.

For those who prefer to build up natural antibodies by being exposed to the flu while they're out and about. Yes, me too but 10 years later with only 1 bout of the flu (I was never tested for the flu and so have no idea if that's what I really had and no, didn't go to the doctor or ER) I felt it was time.

Don't let anyone bully you into getting a flu shot.

Your attitude is fine if you have someone to fetch and carry for you should you become seriously Ill. If you're alone and are solely responsible for your own care, you have to do everything in your power to stay healthy. I've gotten flu shots every year since they first became available. I got a mild case in 2003, a year when the vaccine didn't match the strain that developed. I was in the hospital briefly so I know I actually had the flu. For me the shot is free. Why wouldn't I get it? It's so much easier than a miserable illness.

Kachina624....my thread is not to slam people for getting the flu shot.....it's for those one or two individuals that like to bully and shame those who don't. I'm glad you are doing what is necessary for your good health!!!!

For several years, you have interpreted all positve information about flu shots, all encouragement to get one, as bullying, which is bizarre. No one on a bulletin board can make or force you to do anything.

Ilikeshade...I've had so many flu shots in my lifetime...worked in healthcare and we were (in those days) required to get them. I don't remember anyone pinching my arm that way to give me the shot. I have worked out my upper arms more than usual this past year, and I think the fact that my arms are muscular...made her think I wasnt "relaxed"? I was..I just have very firm arms, and I think some of these people don't have many fit patients.

Not quite. When a couple people say that everyone MUST get a flu shot and if not then they are not doing their civic duty...that's where I draw the line. No one and I mean no one rams their ideology down my throat and gets a free pass. They will hear my opinion too whether they like it or not!

When ever anyone whines about the pain in their arm for days after getting a flu shot I just want to scream "OH GROW UP". The needle used to administer a flu shot is about the size of a hair. Good grief.

I beg to differ. I have been having "regular" flu shots for 17+ years. I have never had any sort of reaction, either sore arm, "flu" symptoms or anything else. A few weeks ago, for the first time I got the quadruple (65+) vaccine. Completely unexpectedly, as I am not one to "expect" a reaction, I had local and systemic symptoms that lasted a total of *5 days*. My arm was very sore for 4 days such that it woke me from sleep every time I rolled over on it. For 3 days, my entire upper arm was red, swollen at the injection site and *hot* to the point that I had to put ice packs on it. I took photos. I had witnesses. I also had a sore throat for 4 days. Was all of this due to the flu shot? Yes, absolutely. Was it more than minor discomfort? You betcha. Will I continue to get flu shots? Again, absolutely, though I may not opt for the quad next year :-(

Having turned 65 this year, I considered getting that stronger "senior" flu shot and decided to just get the same kind that I've been getting for years, with absolutely no side effects. You're making me happy I made that decision! As someone else said, it was so painless I actually had to double check that I'd actually had the shot, lol. No soreness the next day either.

I got the flu shot and I'm glad I did. If I run into someone who didn't and has flu, I have a chance I won't get it from that person. It's an individual choice. I haven't had side effects, but for those who don't like shots or who have a side effect, I don't feel shame for them, I'm sorry it hurts.

The size of the needle has nothing to do with arm pain associated with vaccine. The vaccine triggers immunity which in some cases manifests as inflammation.

I didn't see anyone whining. Some people do experience muscles pain after injections.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

Absolutely not. I was merely responding to Noel7.
