Reconsidering Trifexis - Our New Plan

In a prior thread, I tried not to be too alarmed at the horror stories about Trifexis. My dog has been on it for 4 mos. and has only had a mild reaction of sleepiness the day of dosing. IMO, you can find horror stories for just about anything and there is always going to be a certain percentage of a population, human or animal world, that may have a bad reaction to something, whether it's a medication or food product. My attempts to be reasonable and calm turned into me dwelling on the topic and thinking about it often, especially when I was being quiet with my cup of coffee in the AM or when settling into bed at night. I didn't want to have a knee-jerk reaction, but the more I thought about it, I convinced myself that we've been lucky up until now and that a serious reaction could happen out of the blue, even with current users. I'm just not willing to take that risk with my sweet boy.

Yesterday I did my research and found that K9 Advantix II seemed like the best topical treatment for fleas and ticks, but also handles mosquitos and biting flies. In a comparison chart, K9 Advantix II is equal to Frontline Plus in some areas, but better in others. Not only does it take care of any pests that bite, but there is also a repellent aspect to the treatment as well. There is a warning that if you have cats there is something in the medicine that is bad for cats so the dog and cat(s) should be separated for 12-24 hrs. following application on the dog. That isn't a huge incovenience for me.

I decided to go with Heartgard Plus (chewable) to prevent heartworms, roundworms, and hookworms.

I still think of myself as a new dog owner (4.5 mos.), and still learning how to be a good, responsible one. Please tell me these new products will be good for my dog.

Thanks!
