Thank you all so much for your support and congrats! Our heads are spinning. There is so much to do, and quite a bit of money up front since we're paying for half a month at the new apartment (lease starts March 15), and all of March where each of us is still living, plus a one month security deposit and April's rent at the new place! Ay yi yi !!

We also have to get window treatments within two weeks of March 15, and I dislike curtains and blinds and lean toward roman shades which are more expensive. We also have the movers to consider. I'm going to start calling today to get estimates.

Anyone know if any of the big box stores sell shades and if they are reasonably priced? I like the wooden slatted ones better than the cloth roman shades, but price and installation costs are going to be a factor. Since there are three exposures with nine windows and a patio sliding door, I have a feeling this is not going to be cheap.

Again, thank you all so much for being so happy for my daughter and me. {#emotions_dlg.wub}

Ford, congratulations. I have used Home Depot for window coverings...the one near me has a good selection. I changed from roman shades to wooden blinds...dark color easy to care for. I am so happy for you.

I had cloth roman shades at one time which discolored and stained from moisture very easily, so I would not get them again. I'm thinking of something like this:

I wish they would give us more time to install window coverings, two weeks is going to be tough. We will try Home Depot because we can't install them ourselves.

Thank you again!!

Ford, will they allow paper coverings until you find what you want? When we moved into this house we had someone from a company bring the samples over for us to look over. Of course our selections would take time to arrive. The man put paper coverings over all of the windows, easily removed when the time came for the installation of the real thing.

I know it isn't the best look from inside but at least no one can see inside. We had to tack a sheet over the sliding glass door. Short term solutions.

Home Depot and Lowe's have selections that can be cut to fit in the store. However, you have to have exact measurements for each window. Careful measurements done very specifically for each window. These box stores are also DIY installations unless they offer "handyman" services.

This is exactly what the Lease says:

Window Coverings: You must install appropriate window treatments, shades, blinds, draperies, on all windows and the patio door no later than two (2) weeks after taking possession of your apartment. SHEETS, BLANKETS, QUILTS, etc. ARE NOT PERMITTED for temporary window coverings.

We are taking possession March 15, so that means by March 31. (Caps are theirs.) They are very fussy there which is why the place looks like new when it's over 25 years old. I don't know if they would accept paper coverings or not. When I meet with the Property Manager to sign the Lease, I have a lot of questions for her, and this will be one of them.

Ford, I have something very similar in my living room. They hang on the outside of the windows, on hooks, so they were easy to install. I got them from Sears.

I have 15 of those in my Florida room. They are very easy to install. Maybe the friend of your daughter (the guy who lives there) can help put them up. If not, there must be a handyman for the complex.......
