Pearl Jam is of the same ilk. We had another thread about the this recently...Costco vs Tiffany. I was the only one defending Tiffany. This is the exact same thing...Prince has every right to sue. Companies, including those of one person (ie artists), work hard to get that level of reputation. Downloading concerts to the internet (Prince) & using a named brand (Tiffany) is just like walking in to a store & grabbing the money out of the cash register. Just because "someone doesn't need the money" is not a good reason....sorry, that won't hold up in court. Dress it up any way you want...it's just stealing...plain & simple. #teamprince. #teamtiffany

For once in my life I agree with you sidsmom.

I do as well.

I agree. What they are doing is stealing.

It's always a victory for me when I remember why I entered a room.

Since bootlegging is illegal, he's perfectly within his rights to prosecute to the full extent of he law.

On a more amusing note, according to what she said on the Jimmy Kimmel show last week, Christina Ricci's fantasy is to be good friends with Prince. She went on to say that he looks like My Little Pony.{#emotions_dlg.lol}

Whether he needs the money or not is irrelevant. Whether he has a big ego or not is irrelevant. Whether he's still a big star or not is irrelevant. Whether or not those he's suing have a million dollars is irrelevant. Whether one likes him or not is irrelevant.

What IS relevant is that these people are stealing from him.

You are right. I don't want my little joke in #5 take away from my opinion that what is happening to him IS stealing and I don't blame him in the least for suing. It's also my understanding that if you don't go after these thieves then you set a predicate for further theft of your art and then you cannot challenge the use of it elsewhere because you allowed it previously.

Obviously, it's not about the money. Technically, each time a bootlegged video is viewed, he deserves a royalty...by law.
