Re: Really QVC Christmas Tree up on Oct. 3rd?

This is retail people.

They make their money selling.

The Christmas selling season is in full swing by the first of October.

People on fixed incomes (those that get paid once a month especially in retirement, disability, etc.) have only three paychecks come October 1st.

Stores to varying degrees, are either in full Christmas mode (Hobby Lobby) or beginning (Walmart with it's layaway).

I never understand the 'shock' of it all each year, as it happens like clockwork.

Like it or not, it is what retail will do to make money.

And some people actually enjoy it.

Re: Really QVC Christmas Tree up on Oct. 3rd?

We have been out shopping for a really big tree and are going to buy one in a week or so.  Why on earth would we want to wait until the last minute to buy a tree to put up?

It will be higher probably, we may not have time to look, and now we can put it up whenever we want--usually right before Thanksgiving--without worrying about going out and finding one we like.

Get it now, put it in the outbuilding and relax!

I agree about the "it's retail". It is not only here.

@Mominohio You said it perfectly! It's not "greed", it's BUSINESS. And yes, it happens every year about this time. Retail is all about making money, that's how they survive.

Re: Really QVC Christmas Tree up on Oct. 3rd?

I always find it funny that people get upset at Christmas stuff being out early. In my youth there were a pair of Almart department stores (not a typo, the stores were called Almart) in Delaware that would put out the Christmas stuff right after the Fourth of July. They had a big lawn and garden department and as soon as the Fourth of July weekend ended they'd start clearing out the lawn and garden department and replacing the L&G stuff with Christmas decorations. By the end of July the department was fully stocked and ready for the holidays and was busy.

Growing up while shopping in that store made stores decorating early normal for me. Nowadays back-to-school and Halloween have become bigger events and push back a lot of the Christmas stuff in many stores, but it wasn't that long ago when stores would be fully decked out by the first of September. (Which was just about when we'd get the Christmas catalogs from Sears, Wards, Penney's, etc.) Those complaining about how early stores/shows decorate now would have their heads explode if they went back to how things were a few decades ago.

@Mominohio  Exactly.  The "fixed income" point is really important-some folks really need to budget ahead of time and get the best deals.

I personally enjoy my Halloween decor that goes up in September along with Fall themes.

Plus as far as stores-many, many people begin holiday crafts/homemade gifts early on-I made most of my decor in years gone by and it's much easier to do so before December.

People can buy gifts whenever they want or need to.  That really isn't the issue.

The sets being decorated for Christmas in early October is the issue.  They're missing out on so many beautiful Fall decorating/scenes.

Re: Really QVC Christmas Tree up on Oct. 3rd?

I seem to recall that once the holiday return policy goes into effect, QVC is all decorated for x-mas.  So I don't even notice this anymore.

It won't be long before all the normal programs like PMS, AMS, ITKWD, Friday Night Beauty, The Find,. etc. will be done until after the holidays because everything will turn into gifting shows of some kind or another.

I was in Kohls the other day and they have tons of x-mas stuff out already.  In fact, the Halloween/fall decor was already 60% off.

The few times I tune in I don't see an issue with a Christmas tree.  I don't really notice the decor; just the item interesting me.

@Lipstickdiva

You make a really important point that I have noticed as well.

Once that Sept 25th holiday return policy goes into effect, they want to entice people to buy even more.

The thought process goes something like this.

Oh, look at that (fill in the blank with any item)! I'd love that, or maybe that would make a great gift for mom (or my brother or the mail man!).

Well, I'll just pick it up because if I change my mind I have like four months to send it back!

QVC is banking on people making a lot of spontaneous purchases because they have an out for much longer than 30 days. In reality most people will keep the items, but over purchase during this time frame because of the generous return policy and because seeing some Christmas decor in the background gets them in the mood!
