Because I've been reading here for some time now.  I know what goes on.

You would have to have been reading here for years to know what goes on. Maybe you have been, but just telling you why some posters question you. Have at it.

@proudlyfromNJ @makena  Right on.  I never bought into the "lurking" and "reading" for a long time.

Why would a person read for some time without participating?  Seems to be a waste of time.   The topics are so varied and quite frankly those of us who have been here for a long time know the posters because we interact with each other - in most cases.

Reading these posts is different.  Those of us who have been around for a long time learn key words others use, their nuances, their povs based on certain topics.

Interaction on this site is really key to true participation.  When a newbie shows up and right off the bat inserts a veiled snark the red flags go up.  It's natural to be cautious.

I don't care who joins in and what I've said is my take on the situation.  As an old-timer here I've learned some things.

Gosh, I'm sure that I lurk and read.  This is mostly light entertainment for me.

@persiflage LOL I just read sometimes, too, but as a newbie I never "hoped" that a poster would be banned.  After all these years I still don't hope for a banning for a poster either.

Choices and the ability to bypass is key to harmonious posting.

@Cakers3 well all I can tell you, or wish to say, is I am here now and question away but I don't owe you or anyone else an explanation.  I am here to participate.  I don't know what you are trying to say.  You seem on edge.

That longtime poster here knows better than to post political threads. So I don't think that's it, at least this time.

Luckily THIS longtime poster immediately notifies moderators via 'Report Inappr..opriate Content' when posters clearly violate Community Guidelines.

Many times the thread title is unassuming so the notification is more than warranted.  Then it's up to the moderators to remove the post, delete the thread or....do nothing.

You have violated the standards plenty of times with your baiting posts and threads when you delight in playing devil's advocate.  Baiting is against the standards.  You think people haven't seen what you do, you better think again!

Abso-bloomin'-lootly.

The poster who has just discovered these forums is wise to read and lurk *for a relatively short period of time*, i.e. anywhere from a week to a month, dipping a toe in slowly here and there.

But posters who have never or very seldom posted in the forums before do not usually have the "confidence" to make their first/very early posts much beyond asking questions or expressing an opinion about a product being sold, or an opinion in a cheerful, non-confrontational thread.

Those who have the confidence to bump heads right out of the gate, start "why, oh whyeeeee?" threads, political or religious threads/questions, etc. usually have that confidence because they "know" with whom they are dealing and also know who their backup is. And there is usually backup - very often other new posters. Hmmmm....

Posters who have only a handful of posts under their belt who proclaim that they've been "reading and lurking for years" just do not ring true. Why? Because *only* reading and lurking on a forum without ever participating is BORING, has no point and makes no sense.

Bottom line - people need to give up on the belief that no one has a clue what they're doing. There are literal clues in abundance. And just because it's denied doesn't mean that takes care of that (brushes hands) and everyone will then believe in the newbie sincerity.

My take as well.

Perhaps some people know that their posting will be deleted, but it is their hope that a few people will read it before it is proofed.

It's the same in real life when people say something that they know will get them into trouble and they say it anyway.

They lack self control.

Not half as ridiculous as those who think deflecting and ridicule works.
