Readers TSV, please explain.

Why do people wear these readers lately? Dont people go to eye Doctors if they cant see? Everyone I know and our family has had our eyes checked professionally and if we needed glasses (as kids or in older age), we continue to do so every 2 years. Its like going to a dentist every 6 months.
