I posted the article.
My DH and I have worked with animal rescue and education for the public for years and after I saw the comments on another thread and saw people didn't know where down feathers came from I thought it would help to share the info--- because it breaks my heart and I thought the posters here who are wonderful animal lovers and advocates would want to know.

I care and I am not insensitive--- I changed the subject4times trying to be as informative and still sensitive as I could--- I wanted to protect people from being upset but also let them know what it was about--- guess it was wrong. I'm sorry---- I meant well.
Awwwwwww - - no explanations needed on my part, Belle. Although I didn't see the OT I believe you had the best intentions. I hope it's dropped now.
Just reposting my response to belledejour from the other thread:
Belledejour, it was kind of you to come here to post. You do not owe anyone an apology. I appreciate your intent to inform about a very important issue. I'm sure you understand how upsetting the extended information in your title could be to many. Please do not worry about it.

It was obvious what the topic was about - therefore it was up to each individual on whether or not not they watned to open it.
To actually WRITE or HAVE TO..DO NOT OPEN if you are sensitive is a bit over the top. It was QUITE clear what the topic was about..and you didn't need to read after that..
We need to put those big girl panties on and pull them ALL the way up. The poster was NOT graphic and it was quite clear what the topic was about.
Perfectly put

I always turn off the suffering animal commercials. I donate to a horse rescue each month and help at the local cat-rescue during their fund raisers. Twice a year I send money through paypal to a husky rescue in another state. I have rescued dogs and cats in my lifetime and currently have a rescue cat and a rescue terrier mix that I drove by myself 13 & 1/2 hours each way to pick up. And for the last 2 Christmases I've helped organize donations for a local dog rescue at the place where I work.
I can't rescue them all. Nor can I donate to all of the worthy organizations. So I do what I can. It upsets me to see all those animals suffering in the commercial segments when I know I can't take more on. So I choose not to watch them but to stay active in my donations and fund raisers.
That's what works for me.

ETA: I often choose not to read a thread about cruelty to animals.

But Preds, by not opening a thread and not learning about animal abuse, you stay uninformed and continue to contribute to it. Which is better? Being shocked or distressed for a few minutes and then doing what you can to help the practices to stop? Or not opening a thread to save yourself but sacrifice all the animals that are treated so inhumanely because you don't want to know about it?
That's not the point. Geez.
I rescue animals and I've worked for a rescue organization. I know what goes on. But again, there is no reason to put graphic content in a thread title that could be upsetting. It's not really an outrageous request.
Again, it doesn't mean people want to bury their heads in the sand or stay ignorant of the situation. But people should have the option of opening these types of thread and reading rather than be hit over the head with it.
I feel this way about graphic info. posted in thread titles about people as well.
Just because it's posted in a thread title and you read it doesn't mean you are going to do anything about it. Does it make some of you feel superior? Some will read it, it will have no effect and they will continue to buy their down feathered items. Some of you probably read it, thought "well that's a shame" and moved right on.
Just because you read it doesn't mean you are going to act on the info. to change anything so I don't know why some of you are so adamant that such graphic titles are okay.

Just a little FYI. I posted a thread yesterday re how angora is obtained. The warning was over the top, so as not to "stress" anyone. Nothing negative was posted by anyone on the thread and everyone who entered realized I had gone to great lengths to make sure no one who didn't want to read the contents entered by mistake. That FOREWARNED thread is now gone. Maybe some did read the down thread and react the way you said, but there were definitely those who were GRATEFUL to learn something they had no idea was going on, and they posted to say so. And whether there are those who like it or not, or feel their opinion and attitude are more important than anyone else's, I'm glad the info got to those who were happy to learn about it so they can avoid purchases of down and angora products. You and those like you will get over it. The animals, unfortunately, will not. They'll continue to suffer.

Very well said, LipstickDiva. It's a shame two or three posters continue to come back to create over-the-top drama over a simple request.

I personally would rather hear the ugly truth than no truth at all. I can't make an informed decision about something without facts, and I believe others can inform me of things I've missed myself.
There are many topics here that contain facts that are graphic to some but not others. If you doubt that, read the ongoing thread about the little girl who had her tonsils out. This seems no different to me, in that it's subjective.

Thanks, Reese, for your reasonable, rational and mature response. I think I might just make you my new BFF.
