Source: Centre Daily Times, State College, PA. Does anyone remember this story?
" ... State police will take over the investigation into the 2005 disappearance of former Centre County District Attorney Ray Gricar, police said Monday.
The major case squad made up of investigators from the Rockview and Lewistown barracks will head up the case into Gricar, who was last seen April 15, 2005, and was reported missing that night. Gricar was declared legally dead in 2011.
“It was at the request of Bellefonte borough and the task force,” said Trooper Jeff Petucci, adding that other agencies will continue to be involved, but new tips and oversight will become the responsibility of the state.
Petucci said the goal is simply to look at the investigation from a fresh perspective and review previously acquired information.
Gricar’s nephew Tony Gricar said his family was made aware of the change in investigators late last week but doesn’t know why it happened. He said he appreciated the longtime work of Bellefonte detective Matthew Rickard, Police Chief Shawn Weaver and the rest of the department, and the family looks forward to speaking with the investigators on the major case squad.
“With the larger organizational resources, and reach, of the Pennsylvania State Police, we hope this may lead us to the answer of what happened that day,” Tony Gricar said.
Ray Gricar’s Mini Cooper was found in Lewisburg the day after he was reported missing, and his computer was recovered from the Susquehanna River three months later. But no significant evidence of what happened to the longtime prosecutor has emerged.
In 2010, Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller created a group to review the details of the case.
Any tips regarding the disappearance should be directed to the state police tipline at 800-472-8477 or 800-4PATIPS. ..."

Awesome!
The state or f.b.i. should have examined this case since it's inception.

I remember seeing this story on tv, probably Dateline or 48 Hours. Just based on the information presented there, it truly looked like a botched investigation and possible cover-up. I'm glad to see the renewed interest.

Hi, mgm2! I'll have to read up on the case and refresh my memory. I always feel so sad for the families involved when things like this happen.

Mr. Gricar's car was found in Lewisburg, PA the day after he disappeared. It was parked in a parking lot across from an antique shop adjacent to the Susquehanna River. He told his girlfriend he was going for a drive; Lewisburg is almost 50 miles from State College and one wonders why he ended up in that small town. Many local residents of Lewisburg and surrounding towns still think something is "fishy" (pardon the pun) about his disappearance. Many locals still believe he may be living in a Witness Protection Program and I always wondered about that possibility. He was reportedly involved in a high profile case not related to Mr. Sandusky as some have suggested.
I hope the PA State Police are able to find some answers after all these years. He was last seen in 2005 so who knows what new information they are able to obtain at this point. We may never have the answers we seek.
