We had to say goodbye to another one of our furry kids today. He is the third of our family in the last 5 months. He was over 18 years old and was born in our back yard.

I remember the first day I saw him and his 7 siblings. They were born in a little dog house left here by the previous owner of our home. His mom and the other 7 were walking in a line away from me to hide.

Remember the day because I was mowing and I shut to mower off when I saw this line of kittens. I decided to look in the dog house and saw these little eyes shinning. So I reached in, and lo and behold was this little tuxedo kitten smaller than the palm of my hand.

His name was Cruiser and he was the love of my wife's life of all our many furry ones. During the night he was having seizures, and after each one he was so scared and crying and shaking, as was my wife. She called me over our intercom phone to tell me about this. Later in the morning he has a total of 8 of them.

Our vet did not open till 9:00am so we had to wait to call. Fortunately our vet of many years was working this weekend. He has just gotten back after testing positive for the ***** Virus. He got us in as soon as he could after doing surgeries in the morning.

We had a choice to make and none of the other options would have been good for our Cruiser. Meds, that might work. Specialist to see if he had Cancer. And we knew his Creatine and BUN kidney number functions were way too high and had been giving him IV Fluids for months now.

Our decision  was based on what was the best for our furry loved Tuxedo Cruiser. At one point we had 13 in our home, not that many years ago. We now have 3 all black felines, including Cruiser's mother.

If there are any decisions harder than making the one like we made today, and so many even in the recent months. We know he is now with his other furry brothers and sisters he grew up with over so many years.

Seems like all of the last 5 week have lost were all on weekend days. Not sure the what or why of this, but getting to our vet that all of our furry ones know and like, has not always been what we've had to do.

These are days every pet owner dreads as their furry ones get older. We know more about felines because we have had so many, and loved ever single one of them.

If you've made it this far, thank you. It will be very tough on my wife for some time to come with the lose of Cruiser. Would you keep her in your thoughts.

He is pictured in my icon.

@hckynut  Will certainly keep you and your wife in my thoughts. We lost our black 18 year old last year and I still haven't gotten over it. My heart goes out to both of you.

John, I'm so very sorry for your loss.  It's always so hard to lose a special pet.  Cruiser was a beautiful cat.  I'll be keeping you and your wife in my prayers.

You and your wife can be sure many of us understand your pain.  Even though I don't know you or Cruiser, I always shed a few tears for those who lost their beloved pets.  I have been through it too many times.

Prayers for you, your wife, and your other furry family members.

@hckynut - Oh, my heart goes out to you and your wife. I am so very sorry for the loss of your Cruiser. He is now over the rainbow bridge where he will be taken care of.

We have been through this more times than I care to count and it still hurts when I think of each of them.

Its a hard choice but none of the options were good. End of August lost our 18 year old tortie and not even 2 months later Miss Boots mother to 3 of our cats. Such a beautiful sweet mackerel tabby that arrived as a stray. Your Cruiser was a beautiful fellow.

So very sorry John, I know your heartbreak. I very recently lost my beloved  little Maltie, very suddenly. He was just 5 yrs old. Yes,it was a Saturday too and I had to take him to the Er. Vet.

I had no time to even think, which may have been a good thing.
