This is the first time I have had to deal with 2 cats being sick at once, and it's a little unsettling. Radar started acting a little bit weird last week, laying around more than usual, but I thought maybe the heat was bugging him. However, even Angel noticed it a few days ago, and I noted he really was not very playful with the other cats or getting into much of his usual mischief. The ornery glint was gone out of his one good eye. I dropped him off at the vet's office on Friday morning, and unfortunately, Dr. Bowers is out of state, but the other vet checked him out and really couldn't find anything other than in his urine, the protein and white cell counts were elevated some. Possibly the beginning of a UTI. She gave him injections of antibiotics and steroids and I picked him up at lunchtime. Yesterday he was a tad more lively, but still not good. Today he has been a little more active, but again, still not 100%. We get the bloodwork results back tomorrow, and then depending on what they show, we'll move forward with whatever further treatment is indicated.
Veddy in the meantme, started yakking in the middle of the night a few nights ago. She hasn't acted ill, other than she has a sneezing thing and I've noticed she's doing it a lot more lately. She could be getting gagged by mucous going down her throat (sorry.....) or have another an*al gland issue (sorry again......) or a combination of both. Again, Dr. Bowers is out, but I did call yesterday and leave him a voicemail on the messageline because she yakked a total of 4 times during the day (maybe 5, actually). She has an appetite, is lively, and otherwise seems fine. Just keeps yakking. Our precious Dr. Bowers called me back from out of state about 1-1/2 hours after I left him the message and told me that given Veddy's history of gastroenteritis issues, he thinks it's likely a flare-up, but told me to take up her food until Monday morning to rest everything. He also advised minimal water, but I'll confess, I haven't taken up the water or minimized it. She was up at 2 AM with what was essentially dry heaves, but has been ok since; however, she is starving and everytime I get up from my recliner, she chases after me or runs ahead of me, hoping I'll remember she's hungry. I hate it.
At any rate, just wanted to ask you all to keep my precious furbabies in your prayers and thoughts. I can't help but worry......they are just such a constant source of comfort and companionship to me, especially during a summer that has been a nightmare from he*ll for me. Thanks, everyone! Love to you all!!
