He wrote several versions of Hallelujah and gave some to particular other singers. I liked it that he didn't mind if they changed it a bit.
K.D. Lang..also a Canadian like Cohen has done IMO some of the best performances of this song..one in 2005 at the Juno Awards and another great one was for winter olympics opening ceremony in Vancouver.

I've never understood why the Eugenics movement in this country isn't taught in schools, including targeting Native American women. The movement went on for decades.
Sorry, I don't want to take the thread off-track.

Yes! @straykatz
I'm a fan of K.D. Lang, also, and I love her version of Hallelujah. Are you referring to the one where she's onstage barefoot ?

Do you mean Native American bodies piled up at the time Hitler was in power? I haven't heard of that.
Eugenics was popular at that time in Germany and America, sterilization was used on a lot of Americans, the disabled and mentally challenged.
Hi Noel
No, the photos of the past were pointed out as the example on how to handle people that needed to be exterminated. Eary photography captured many horrors.

From today's on-line New Yorker, interview with Cohen this summer.
“I am ready to die,” Cohen said. He was already suffering from a number of health problems. “At a certain point, if you still have your marbles and are not faced with serious financial challenges, you have a chance to put your house in order. It’s a cliché, but it’s underestimated as an analgesic on all levels. Putting your house in order, if you can do it, is one of the most comforting activities, and the benefits of it are incalculable.”
Sounds as though he was in a good place.
RIP

If he truly was spiritual, he is as you write resting in peace.

There was an extraordinary profile of Leonard Cohen fairly recently in the New Yorker. I recommend it for his fans or anyone interested. It gave me a whole new perspective on his life and his lyrics.
"Sisters of Mercy" is one of my favorite LC songs. A person who was held in captivity in Lebanon during the 1990s was interviewed on NPR about his captivity and said that this Leonard Cohen song was something he had sung to himself silently throughout his captivity.
Edited to say, checking on some 'hearts" I left last night, they have been deleted without any notice to me. Not all, for a few remain, but many. Way to go, QVC--not.

I didn't know that. I've seen her perform with Tony Bennet several times, and other performances of course, but never noticed her feet. I'll have to look at the ones with Tony Bennet, maybe the shots don't go down that far.
