I loved those little windows and liked to keep my hand just outside of it.  Those were back in the days when we did not wear seat belts and some of our children stood up in the middle of the front seat.

Re: REMEMBER EARLY AIR CONDITIONING?

My mother would insist that the windows were not to be rolled down because her hairdo would get mussed.

I remember seeing women in the front seat nursing their babies.  This was before car seats.  I also remember being on the back of my uncle's truck and holding on for dear life while he drove through the freeways.

Re: REMEMBER EARLY AIR CONDITIONING?

One family vacation we drove 2,000 miles cross country. My dad had aftermarket air conditioning put in the car. But driving in the desert, it barely worked. The car would overheat and dad would turn off the air conditioner. When the car cooled off, he would turn the AC back on. 4 whiney kids, hot in the desert.

Getting air conditioning in a new car was an expensive luxury or option!  I don't remember what year it became standard across the board to have it but I'm glad those days of not having it are long gone!

This is the first time I am hearing the  term wing window. We called it the vent.
