REALLY AMAZON?!?!? A VENT AND WARNING!

[ Edited ]

I know the world will not end with what happened to me....but thanks for giving me an opportunity to tell my story and allow me to vent---I think Ive earned it.....Its a long story, but maybe you'll learn a tip for the Holiday Shopping Season 😉

Let me say this, I am NOT a fan of Amazon, but I was backed into a corner and had no choice---- I have not one but two lamps that can only use incandescent light bulbs of a specific wattage..Me, and my family and friends have searched all over town and all the retailers are out of the bulbs I need (we searched high and low in grocery stores, Target, Walmart, Home Depot, Lowes, Kohls, lighting stores, CVS, Walgreens, Dollar Store, Dollar Tree, Family Dollar, even convenience stores), there was even an EXTENSIVE online search as well---NO LUCK! Get another lamp you suggest---easier said then done---the styles are either downright UGLY, or too modern for my taste---so thats not even an option!!!

As a last resort I turned to Amazon---BINGO---they had the light bulbs..😮😀😁...so I signed up for Amazon and the prime free trial (I previously had an Amazon account years ago but canceled over a bad experience--that should have been a forewarning)  I placed my order with my prime next day delivery--I eagerly awaited the arrival of my package......

Oh I got the delivery all right (a 6 count of each size bulb I needed)....but when I picked up the box I heard the sound of broken glass....and broken glass spilled out of the cracks from the box onto my front door mat ...Oh, that explains what that thump was when the delivery person threw the box against the front door!!!

I opened the box and had to be careful I didnt get cut from the broken glass and smashed light bulbs!!! There was NO PACKING PROTECTION and the box was not marked "fragile" either!!!  I ANGRILY had to do a google search to find Amazons CS number....and immediately made a phone call----The CS Rep wasnt too sympathetic and it was like she was going through a step by step procedure on what she was willing to offer me to resolve the problem---She said well today's 11/2 and your replacement order should arrive 11/16---REALLY--11/16!!!---UNACCEPTABLE I shouted---I should certainly be entitled to my PRIME DELIVERY same as I requested on the initial order!!!---then she tried 11/4---STILL UNACCEPTABLE!!!. After a brief hold she offered next day delivery---🙄

Next issue ---how do I get a prepaid return label to send back the broken glass---the nearest retailer for Amazon returns isnt in a convenient location and Im not going out of my way---she said I didnt have to return the broken glass and she would make a note, and I told her she can add this to her note and inform the powers that be to pack delicate items better, and mark the box as FRAGILE  (she thanked me for my suggestions---SMH!) She offered me a $5 credit for my inconvenience---personally I think I deserved a bit more for having to clean up the broken glass that fell to the ground when I picked up the box at my doorway!!!  (yep the glass even spilled out of the box---afterall time is money and $5 didnt quite cut it--pardon the pun), but I accepted her offer ungraciously🙄😏........

Another day, more waiting for my replacement delivery---and the excitement grew to see how the second attempt would go. And boy did they let me know when it was delivered!!!  The delivery person not only BANGED and I mean BANGED on my door LOUDLY---BUT ALSO SHOUTED ---AMAZON DELIVERY---in a voice loud enough to let my entire neighborhood know my package  had indeed arrived!!!🙄🤣.............Thankfully this time the bulbs arrived in one piece! ---I also got an email asking me about my delivery---although no box to check for loud and noisy delivery!! 😄

That's my story, thanks for reading my vent...as I said I know its not the end of the world, and there's worse things going on today ----BUT folks this is THE BIG "A", THE ALMIGHTY AMAZON which is adored by so many and almost worshipped by some.....A retailer "HURTLING TOWARDS WORLD DOMINATION" as a Newsweek Article put it....(with tentacles reaching not only into retail, but the grocery game, pharmaceuticals, medical insurance, banking, entertainment, and even outer space (Blue Origin)...And although Bezos himself has recently taken a slight backseat in running Amazon he is STILL the EXECUTVIE CHAIRMAN!!! ---What's funny is despite all the accolades (or "loathing" by his competition) his company cant pack and deliver some lightbulbs safely to this woman in Texas....Boy, I wouldnt want to take a chance on taking a trip to outer space on one of his Blue Origin spaceships for Mars...🤔😏😫😉 Boy William Shatner didnt realize how luck he was arriving safely back from his trip...

Since we are nearing the Holiday Shopping Season, I offer this advice: if you order something fragile from Amazon make sure you add a note in the delivery instructions---to be sure to pack the item carefully, mark it fragile, and instruct the delivery person not to throw it against your front door---or better still---see if Ebay carries it, their vendors seem to know how to handle fragile merdchandise...😉  HAVE A GREAT DAY FOLKS!

Re: REALLY AMAZON?!?!? A VENT AND WARNING!

Amazon CS has always been quite nice with me. I’ve never had to return a broken order ( happened once). I don’t call. I use the chat feature.

I’m sorry you had a bad experience. I would not have shouted at the rep on the phone.

@Spurt    Do I understand that you won't be making a reservation for "The Trip"?

I had a similar experience with a heavy item and a fragile item being thrown in a box together with absolutely no packing.  I did miss having it thrown against the door as I have glass storm doors.   Guess he didn't want to buy me me new ones.

Good point, now if the Rep had offered some sympathy and empathy and was nice rather than sounding annoyed and bothered by me calling I would have been a bit more accomadating.......at least she liked my suggestions 😉

Re: REALLY AMAZON?!?!? A VENT AND WARNING!

@Spurt   As QVC has gone through all its shipping issues and I have never encountered one except by reading the Forums, I have believed for years now that if other big companies ran an active chat board, you would see plenty of complaints.

Policies go only so far and one or two vendors or warehouse workers or like in your case, a delivery person, goes rogue and step one for a disaster is in place.  Looks as if whoever packed those bulbs and the delivery person both broke those bulbs and created a dangerous situation for you to work through.

I am headed to my local Ace soon -  just added bulbs to my list.  Maybe I'll be lucky.

Re: REALLY AMAZON?!?!? A VENT AND WARNING!

Sorry about your problems with Amazon. I've ordered from them several times and haven't had any trouble. I don't have Prime, so delivery wasn't an issue. I had to return something once (I accidentally ordered two exact items) and returning was easy.

The package should have been marked "fragile." Even so, delivery people shouldn't throw any package. They could have set it by your door with no incidence.

I don't order from Amazon enough to make Prime worthwhile.

I'd rather explore space with Elon Musk.................

WOW, you were lucky about those storm doors.....

Its amazing--- aiming for Mars but no common sense regarding the handling of fragile merchandise.......perhaps a scientific demo might have helped......

It's funny I ordered two books from Barnes & Noble as a gift.....and you should have seen the care they took with packing the box---and these were books!!! Carefully and expertly delivered by UPS!!! 😃

@teganslaw

Maybe the Amazon delivery person was hoping to try out as an NFL QB some day hence throwing the packages...😉

Yep, even if I liked Amazon I wouldnt order enough to make it worth while either (they estimate you must place  more than 32 orders to make it worthwhile and pay off)...thats why I chose just the trial offer

Sadly they closed the only ACE I know of around here....that certainly would have provided a better solution! 🤔

Since LED has become the preferred bulb--- incandescent ones have become scarcer and scarcer....hope they have your bulbs!

Venting allowed!  Sorry to hear you had this problem.

If I can't find something, rather than even look at Amazon, I'll try ebay first.

Yes, this obsession with Amazon is a bit strange.  If only they knew what we know about Bezos and his idolized company.
