@Moonchilde I thought it looked familiar. I get the Country Door catalog. I didn't even know Montgomery Ward was still around!

Neither.  Now I'm using a Turkish throw that's just heavy enough to not feel the ceiling fan if I have it running.  In the winter I'll go with my cheap plush throw from

Wal Mart.  I'm still on the hunt for the perfect blanket, but a large throw/twin works for the time being.

I have done similar in the winter with large throws/twin blankets on top of a year-round weight comforter when it gets colder. But I like comforters for the warmth-to-weight ratio.

You only live once, @Moonchilde.  I say if you love it that much, buy it!  I doubt that you will regret it.

I have to confess, @Citrine1, that is kinda the way I'm leaning ;-)

Get it.  You can't take it with you.  Money , not the quilt.  Smiley Wink

Thank you, @catwhisperer. Despite not being a quilt person the pull of the print was stronger than my hesitation. My niece will be pleased as she IS a quilt person and thought I should get it when I first showed it to her :-)

@Moonchilde...I really love the colors and you did the right thing going with your gut and getting it. Smiley Happy  I am actually an old school bedspread person. I cannot sleep with any kind of weight on top of me, even in winter. Quilts and comforters are too heavy for me to handle anymore. No one seems to carry bedspreads much anymore. I keep looking online for a light weight one, but no luck yet. I'll keep looking.

I also have to take into consideration that I need something easy to wash, as I have two felines that love my bed.Cat Tongue

@catwhisperer, I was always a blanket & bedspread person for most of my life, but when comforters were everywhere I realized they could take the place of a blanket  and a bedspread and I've never looked back. I like the convenience, light weight and warmth - but I don't like washing them :-(

The quilt will most likely be warm enough from May-June through October, but Nov into early May we're still having fires in the fireplace. I'm using a comforter now - it's in the 50s at night even in July/August here.

Started out with two kittehs sharing my bed, then one, then she passed at 21. Now I'm Auntie to my niece's kitteh, who is snuggled up with me as I write.

Re: Quilt or Comforter?

An excellent choice!  That's a real HAPPY quilt.  It will be nice to start the day with the sun and that quilt in your field of vision.

Being in the north, I have quilts, comforters, blankets, throws, and electric blankets.  It gets very cold around here starting in November and doesn't let up until late March if we're lucky!

@Lorik62, my niece gets Country Door. When I mentioned how pretty I thought this was, she said "get it!" but that was at least 2 months ago. I was looking in the catalog again yesterday and I was like yes, no, I dunno!

I don't know if Ward's is only catalog sales these days or not. I haven't seen a b&m store in a while.

@Moonchilde....for some strange reason, the older I get, the less I can tolerate heat. I HATE summer. In the summer, I only use a sheet on my bed. In the winter, I rarely use a blanket, just cover up with a flannel sheet. If it gets down in the 30's, which is rare, I will use a light weight blanket. I was concerned about a possible thyroid issue, but talked to my doctor and had labs done recently. No health issues.

I promise to remind myself every day that I am strong, courageous, and resilient.

@Ms X, that's it - it made me feel happy just to look at it. It pleased my eyes.

I have always lived in SoCal until recently so it was only cold at night for maybe 3 months of the year, and by cold I mean in the 40s.  A lightweight comforter & a furry throw was plenty.

Central Coast is colder. In July and August the sun doesn't come out most days and it stays in the 60s near the coast. It was foggy today at 1:30 in the afternoon. It'll get warmer in Sept/Oct and down to freezing at night Dec into early March.

I prefer the texture of a quilt over a comforter. Quilts seem to last longer, too,  IMO
