Good thing I called and asked because the premium tripled on top of doubling this year. And on top of tripling the premium they increased everything I had to pay substantially.
The Kaiser Family Foundation (kff.org) has an interesting cover story re: switching.
The KFF is a leading research foundation specializing in healthcare - very widely respected.
Their study says that 73% of marketplace members can save money by switching plans...even by staying with their current insurer. Most insurers offer several plans at each metal level - some with restricted networks, some without (PPO plans)...with premium differences of up to $100 at each level!
Everyone should review their policies every year - seniors have learned to do this with Medicare. Often companies will "tweak" plans - and count of consumers just "going along" and not checking too closely.
I recommend that people who want to learn more about healthcare check out their website. They also publish nifty maps each year which show marketplace premium increases in each state. It's no surprise that states that allowed Medicaid expansion have MUCH lower increases. States that rejected the expansion need to make up the money somehow - and insured people pick up the slack for the uninsured!!!

60sgirl............given the fact that I was originally questioning maryebrowne's post about what her husband claims his company is offering (a gold plan) and my investigating costs of a privately purchased platinum plan. You jumped in offering a unrelated situation so I can understand you're not wanting to enter a discussion on the issue at hand. Be well and stay healthy.
except that your original post quoted my answer about buying on the exchange when you have employer sponsored coverage and it was not unrelated to the topic.
