Question...son divorcing and grandchild in another state

Looking for any suggestions/insights...it appears that our son is divorcing and his wife and 2 yr. old child are now in another state 2000+ miles away. Any suggestions on how grandparents can be part of the life of this young child? My son's ex is lumping us in with him and won't return phone calls etc. She has a huge family that is in the middle of all of this, while we have stayed out of it to let them work it out for themselves. If anyone has gone through this and has any suggestions I would appreciate them.....
