Re: Question on Aricept (personal expriences)

My mother became very anxious, hostile, and more confused, and also started to hallucinate within a week of starting the medication. We took her off it right away and the doctor put her on the Exelon patch. That worked very well for her for a few years. We were told that she actually has Lewy Body dementia, and that Aricept is not always the best solution for those patients.

Lotus I just want to say I'm so sorry about that episode that happened with your mother. It really was awful to imagine what you were going through all yesterday morning. So Heartbreaking!

I've never actually known anyone who suffered from Alzheimer's and it just seems so sad to think that this illness would cause them yell at someone they love deep down inside. Know that she does.

Re: Question on Aricept (personal expriences)

My father was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2005 and was prescribed Aricept. It did help make him more focused and less confused at times, but he still had periods of forgetfulness. But this medication was better than giving him nothing to help with this disease. He took Aricept for the next five years until he passed away in 2010. He also suffered from Congestive Heart Failure, which is what he succumbed to, and was also on several medications for this condition as well. Although he had some side effects from some of the other medications he took, he did not have any side effects from the Aricept.

Lotus, I'm so sorry you are going through this with your Mom but so glad to hear she is doing better. And may you stay well too.
