So why not just zap the offending posts?

Why "punish" others for a few offenders.
It makes no sense if a thread is being moderated.

I don't look at it as we are being "punished."  The moderators are taking the initiative to lock it due to the posters who hijack it and turn it into a politicial topic, which the OP clearly asked that we don't do that and most of us honored it.  They probably locked it before it got out of hand.  What other choice did they have.

@makena

The other choice is to pull the offending posts and let the people who do follow the rules continue with their civil conversation.

That was done but there is a limit.  I don't suppose they can focus on one thread while it goes arwy.  I'm sure it's part of their job to decide what's best.

@Juniebugz  Just saw your post.

I didn't know that what  Michelle wore was not permitted in prior threads. In that case, yeah, you can't have it both ways.

put michelle obamas name in the forum search bar to see just how many posts/threads come up. Smiley Wink

i know a number of us have tried MO threads before in fashion, community chat and they never seem to last.

          I've only been reading/posting since mid-2010.   I can attest to the fact that for years even the slightest mention of the fashion in any political event or related to any political figure was deleted (inauguration, convention, campaign trail, speeches, anything).    Usually pretty quickly.   When I first saw the thread I simply thought "well, that won't last long."   Came back later and was quite surprised to see it here.   I only can wonder if the policies have been relaxed.   It would be helpful to know this if it's so, but as always we post at their discretion and what will be will be.   My posts get poofed...  I move forward to the new day.    I always thought it was an interesting topic, would love to see it allowed, but in the past it was on the taboo list.

everything you have said @dooBdoo is true.

even threads about the styles of their daughters and how they have grown into beautiful young ladies have been deleted.

i liked the PURE fashion aspect of the thread......but they have never let them stand before.

Re: Question for the mods, please

Sigh, I am sorry that thread had to be locked as it was fun for the majority of those that participated.  It's a shame a few had to ruin it for the many.  I don't understand intentionally ruining other people's fun.

I have very strong political views but was more than happy to keep them out of the conversation.  I LOVE talking fashion.

And even though I've seen the accusations of "veiled political posts" I did not see it while I was posting (I had to leave and thread was still active but locked when I returned to read later on last evening).  I thought that those who said it was clearly a political thread were projecting their own feelings,and not reflecting reality.  I found it really unfair when a few posters insisted that it was a "love fest" and was partisan.  I say baloney on that.

For myself, and I am sure for others, we talked fashion and that's it.  We did NOT allude to the fashion wearers politics, even when we liked the fashion but did not like the views of the person wearing them.  I liked that it seemed we could do that.  But NO, posters had to come along and say that it was an obviously political thread.

So, the way I see it is that it is those who came along crying POLITICAL THREAD that made it so.  NOT those of us talking about the fashion.

Seemed unnecessary, unfounded, and rather paranoid.

Re: Question for the mods, please

The mods cameo into that thread at least twice - that I saw - and asked that it remain on topic about fashion.  Still, posters made snide political comments.

Yes, the "kindly" posts on the fashion thread stating"it's about time we brought fashion back to the WH.  Many posted posts similar. Very nice posts? I don't think so.
