Question about generics (store brands)

Today my sister and I went grocery shopping together which we normally don't do. I always buy the generic butter instead of Land o Lakes (except if LoL is on sale for cheaper) as the store brand is usually a good dollar or more cheaper. My sister picked up LoL and I was just surprised and asked her why. I have had both and there is absolutely no difference between the two and in most cases the generic and LoL are made in the same plant with just different packaging. When I asked her she said she doesn't know why she has just always bought the LoL. She put it back and bought the generic and said she was going to try it. Also, I am not talking about Irish or European butter, I know that is different (and delicious!), I am just talking about Land o' Lakes vs. the store brand.

It just got me thinking. There are some products I won't buy the generic like Heinz ketchup or sodas. I also can't understand why people would buy Tylenol when generic acetaminophin is MUCH cheaper and exactly the same. Again, Tylenol and generics (store brands) are usually even made in the same plants.

I mean I could definitely afford to buy the name brand of these things but I just can't see why when it is exactly the same and in some cases the store brands are even better.

What about you guys? Do you buy LoL or generic butter and what about Tylenol, do you buy the store brand and save yourself at least a couple of dollars? It is exactly the same as Tylenol, only cheaper.
