Question: Home Table-Top or Floor Humidifiers

Hello ~~ I recently moved in with my parents as a caregiver. They do not have a humidifier attached to their furnace. Instead, they have four small table-top humidifiers (one in every major room). Oddly, we have noticed that we get a white film over the furniture and television sets from these humidifiers. We have to dust almost every day. A friend of mine noticed the same thing with her humidifier. Does anyone know why this is and if anything can be done to prevent it? Thanks.
