@Carol Diane wrote:SHQ has lost thousands of dollars from me throughout the years because they seem to be the only shopping channel who doesn't get that NJ doesn't pay tax on clothing. They tell me a few slip through...about half or more of my orders show they will be charging tax. I don't buy it then. Forget about getting assistance on the phone. They say they're not authorized to take it off. I have complained and written numerous times to no avail. It's absolutely ridiculous and aggravates me to no end.
@Carol Diane. @Carmie etc.
Why don't those of you with non-refunded taxes file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission? Contact your Congressional reps, pointing out the problem and the need for legislation.

@haddon9 wrote:They charged me sales tax on a button down blouse last year. I live in PA and there is no sales tax on clothing except on certain items which are considered "unnecessary".
One of those "unnecessary" items is swimwear. The top even though it was a long sleeved button down blouse was in the category of a bathing suit cover up. I never wore it as one but as a regular top...go figure!
I'm really curious to know WHY PA doesn't think swimsuits are "essential". You have a lot of skinny-dipping going on??? (Just joking...my dh was from PGH)

@haddon9 hmmm, never heard that swimwear was in that catagory. I learn something every day here! Thanks. I thought all clothing was not taxed in PA.

There are some categories of clothing that is taxed in PA.
They include formal wear, wedding gowns, hunting clothing, swim suits, costumes, natural and faux fur items.

They charged me shipping as well..The first rep i got argued that the beauty item was not F/S si i hung up and called back and got one that said i needed to call back after item ships..This is not the first time i have had to do this and come to think of it i have never got the tax back....You bet when i call for the refund i will make sure they include the tax.Its 10% where i live...Think of how many thousands of people have had this happen. They are making a good amount of money off this scam!Yes i think its a scam! They could easily fix the problem but they dont.

Sales tax charged by retailers depends on how that retailer is registered in the state. Who knows how Q registered there.
They hung up on you? Reps don't hang up unless the caller gets too heated. While that's fairly subjective, it's the rep's decision to decide what's too heated. If so, I'll bet your account is flagged for the next call.

@Carmie wrote:@rms1954 We were not on the phone. Was using on line chat. I stated the issue politely and asked them to refund the sales tax.
The rep just closed the window and I got the screen to rate the service. I just left it go. Losing a small amount isn't gonna break me, but it was rude.
Why would the rep do it? My guess is it was too much work to refund such a small amount and they didn't want to bother.
Or they could have given you an aswer. You may not have liked it. Who knows.

I pay the sales tax for our company.
It is filed quarterly, NOT daily.
QVC's excuse that the tax was already paid to our states doesn't fly with me.
Now they may have a different system going on, but I doubt it.
So they most certainly CAN refund your tax paid.
If I give credits after the taxes have been paid, I can STILL take a credit the next qtr. for sales tax refunded.
I often have called for a sales price adjustment and ALWAYS rec'd the tax back on the difference. That stopped maybe 6+ mos ago, getting the answer from the Mods that they are 'no longer able to refund the tax'.
I agree, it is ALL messed up!

@Carmie wrote:QVC charged me $3.50 for shipping on a free shipping day. They caught it and refunded the charge. What they didn't do was refund the sales tax they charged for S&H.
I contacted CS though the app and explained and they " hung up" on me. Now I know it's only a small amount and won't kill me, but it still is not correct.
In the past, they charged me sales tax on shoes that are not taxable and would not refund my money. I had to make a request from the state and after all of that, my money was returned.
Keep an eye on your transactions. A few dollars or cents here and there adds up. Busineses should be honest and do the right thing.
@Carmie So how much was the tax on $3.50? What is your states tax rate? My state is 7.75% and it would come out to be $.27 (27 cents).

@lynnie61 Here's another weird thing.....men's belts are not taxed but women's are. Why?... because men use belts to hold their pants up and women use it for decoration.
At least that's how it used to be years ago. I don't know if they changed that ridiculous & sexist law.
