@ms traditional. Perhaps you need to chastise the American Red Cross as I haven't heard a word of an appeal for donations from them. Don't they usually start these campaigns and others then urge people to donate to them?
Maybe the problem is that there is no national declaration of this being an official disaster area which would make them eligible for all sorts of benefits including low-interest loans and special unemployment insurance benefits for those whose places of employment were destroyed.

@Lipstickdiva. That wasn't her point. Do it for all or do it for none.
@proudlyfromNJ, I know what her point was and I guess I'm in the do it for none side.
I don't know how they make the determination as to when they are going to post a banner or not. There have been other fires and nothing was done for those either.
It's not even on my radar to wonder why a shopping channel doesn't have a banner up. I'm either going to donate or not, regardless of what QVC is doing or not doing.

It's been declared a national disaster.

I guess there will be no more banners for disaster relief appeals. Including some disasters while excluding others is controversial.

@kachina there was a Major Disaster Declaration some days ago, asked for by Brown and approved by the President:
A Major Disaster Declaration provides funds to affected communities for a wide range of support. This includes crisis counseling, housing and unemployment assistance and legal services, according to the office of California Gov. Jerry Brown.
i read that FEMA aid is available too. so i see no problem there.
i'm not a spokesperson for the Red Cross. the organization has been requesting volunteers here and does have a category for Calif wildfires at their web site.
but i am a shopper here, a vigorous one, who lives in Los Angeles. i have seen many banners for many U S disasters. so i was surprised that in a week one hasn't appeared for this rather major one. unlike others, i never mind seeing the banner because it reminds me to try to do something.
off to tackle Wednesday!

Call me cynical, but IMO any banner the Q puts up for donations to any cause is more a matter of PR than anything else.
Donate whenever and wherever you can.

Yes, A Major Disaster Declaration for the State of California has been declared. It provides a wide range of federal assistance programs for individuals and public infrastructure, including funds for both emergency and permanent work, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Red Cross volunteers are supporting evacuation centers in California to provide safe refuge for people impacted by the devastating wildfires. More than 2,000 people sought refuge from the wildfires in 18 Red Cross and community evacuation centers across California. People are welcome to come to shelters for help even if they don’t stay overnight. Donate to RedCross.Org

It's been stated that PG & E is responsible for the Camp fire because their equipment was malfunctioning and prior to that there was not a fire there. People have already submitted filings in court to sue them with many more to follow. PG & E was the one who poisoned the water in Hinkley Ca promising to clean it up and then promising to pay victims huge sums of money that they won in court. The water is still poison and the victims have not been paid to the court ordered amount.

Regarding the banner:
If you don't know about disasters occurring here and all over the world, then, IMHO, you must be living under a rock. Between my phone, every vendor or email site (yahoo Mail, for example) as well as TV announcements as well as people on the corner asking for money, people outside a store asking for money and people at work asking for money...news about disasters and causes is everywhere.
I'm sure this will sound cold; I ignore them. My family (I'm talking aunts, uncles, cousins, grandchildren..the entire family on my side) donate a large sum to a specific cause; we have for decades (since the 40's). My household donates to another cause as well due to my sons' disease. Every time I'm asked to donate at a register, I say no. Then I get the stink-eye. Occasionally someone will make a comment (usually another customer).
I will spare you my response.
Why QVC chooses one disaster and not another, I don't know. But..if you're going to support one cause, support them all. Otherwise, stop.

“..stink eye...’
‘...comments..’?
How have I lived 58 years without this happening to me?
Have a feeling these are ‘assumed’ reactions.
