That happened to me once going through old purses. I found a paycheck that was two years old. The bank told me that it had a stale date and that the employer did not have to reissue the check according to state law. I contacted my former employer, and he reissued it. Obviously, I was remiss in not cashing the check. However, I think the employer must have known that I had not cashed it and should have notified me. It was a small office, and he hand wrote the check. Who knows? Maybe he didn't balance his checkbook. I was just grateful that he reissued it.
