Re: Pumpkin Riots In New Hampshire

Binge drinking is an increasing problem on college campuses and Halloween is a big party time. Alcohol does not lead to logical decisions.

Re: Pumpkin Riots In New Hampshire

When I have a couple of drinks, and I mean just a couple, not like a couple of dozen drinks, all I want to do is go to sleep. The last thing on my mind is starting a riot and setting fire to things. I just want cuddly pajamas and a warm quilt. I don't get violent drunks at all.

  • About half of college students who drink, also consume alcohol through binge drinking.

Each year, drinking affects college students, as well as college communities, and families. The consequences of drinking include:

  • Assault: More than 690,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are assaulted by another student who has been drinking.
  • Sexual Abuse: More than 97,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 are victims of alcohol-related sexual assault or date rape.
  • Injury: 599,000 students between the ages of 18 and 24 receive unintentional injuries while under the influence of alcohol.
  • Academic Problems: About 25 percent of college students report academic consequences of their drinking including missing class, falling behind, doing poorly on exams or papers, and receiving lower grades overall.
  • Health Problems/Suicide Attempts: More than 150,000 students develop an alcohol-related health problem and between 1.2 and 1.5 percent of students indicate that they tried to commit suicide within the past year due to drinking or drug use.

Re: Pumpkin Riots In New Hampshire

Hi Noel. Only looked at the pics. I guess the youth of today is bored with themselves and one another. One pic had the girls smiling from ear to ear - what was that all about.

I know it's all just a day of fun but I think others (animals included) could use some pumpkins and pumpkin products to eat as they may have hunger. It can all be such a waste.

I'm not sure what you're saying, LR. Do away with pumpkin carving & display?

No. The pumpkin carving is quite creative. I'm referring to the trashing of the pumpkins in the various ways people do it.

We put our carved pumpkin in the food recycler when it starts to turn. There's always that alternative.

More and more people out here seem to be going for the fake pumpkins. They come in a variety of colors. I bought a medium size matte black one at Michael's that I'm going to drizzle with fake clear stones like jewels, They also have ones that can be carved, just like a real pumpkin.

Re: Pumpkin Riots In New Hampshire

I was in Boston over the weekend and saw this story on the local news. How awful!

While watching a reporter live in the area this morning, a kid was being arrested. This was around 9 am.

You can take the girl out of Jersey, but you can't take Jersey out of the girl. Jersey Girl living in CNY.
