Re: Public restrooms and purses

It either goes over my shoulder or on my lap. Not on a door hook. There have been many cases over the years of purses being grabbed off of the hook. It CAN be done if the thief is tall enough.

I'd NEVER leave a purse in the seat of a grocery cart. Very easy to grab and run. It's been done often.

Re: Public restrooms and purses

I have had my purse stolen from the childs seat on the grocery cart. I now will put it there...then start piling things on top of my purse so it would make lots of noise and more time if someone does try to steal my bag.

I keep one hand on the purse short strap all the time it's in the cart.

I also own three of those decorated purse chain locks that QVC used to sell. I think they're also sold online. They can prevent a quick grab and run, although it could be broken if someone stood there and tried to break it, but by that time you'd be able to yell.

Here are a couple of photos to illustrate what I mean, although there are ones prettier than this:

I never put my pocketbook on the floor. I carry it some how. Usually I have a cross-body bag. Depending where I am, I also may leave it locked in the glove compartment of the car.

I have never put my purse on the floor anywhere, and I try to avoid public restrooms at all cost.

Not being snarky at all, but I am curious why.

Re: Public restrooms and purses

Believe it or not, I keep a zip-lock bag of Lysol wipes in my bag all the time. I rarely ever use a public restroom, but you never know..... They will stay moistened for a long time if you don't open the bag to check on them. I guess if they are really dry, you could moisten them at the sink before going into the stall.... So far, that hasn't happened....

Better safe than sorry.....Smile

ETA - Of course, the "wipes" are meant for the seat. Just in case anyone was confused. {#emotions_dlg.confused1}

Here's a little tid-bit from Live Science re: public restrooms:

"The germiest place? The floor — there lies the most diverse community of bacteria, the researchers said. The average swab taken from the floor had about 230 bacterial species, compared with 150 species in swabs from other locations." *

* Locations in the restroom.

WebMD lists germs commonly found in public restrooms as including streptococcus, staphylococcus, E. coli and shigella bacteria, hepatitis A virus, the common cold virus, and various secksually transmitted organisms. They suggest this poses a problem for those with immune system issues.

There are quite a few of us on this board with immune system problems.
