Re: Public Restrooms routines

No one is kept waiting while you push a button or choose the ramp since both lead to general access. However, no one can  join you in the stall so a handicapped woman has to wait no matter her need.

You wouldn't park in a handicap space to avoid a ticket and nasty looks/comments even for two or three minutes.

Since there is no law against it, probably because it would be impossible to enforce, you can be as selfish and inconsiderate as you please.

Re: Public Restrooms routines

According to the ADA handicapped stalls are equipped to handle the needs of a disabled person, but are not reserved for them alone to use.

If they are empty, they can be used by anyone.

Yep.  Handicap accessible.  Not handicap only.

Oh it is awful.  I have to plan my whole life around it.  I carry extra clothing  in my car, supplies in my handbag and starve myself if going on a long trip by car.

I also take a handful of imodium tablets when I am having a spell.  I told my DH that I  can’t image my life as I age.  My father had the same issues.  We often had to go home earlier than planned when we were out.

Sometimes I am good for months, then with no warning, it is back again.

Re: Public Restrooms routines

OP ▪▪▪ great topic~!

I purposely do not drink anything 90 min. prior to leaving the house...this works for me.   Never drink beverages at restaurants either.  On my last 4 hr. flight to AZ, I gave my free beverages to other passengers.  (At work, the powder room is not that disgusting, always having a tissue in my hand to turn on light switch, locking door, opening door...makes this tolerable)...the auto-flush type potty is a godsend!)

I have OCD in restrooms since I read where a high % never wash their hands...disgusting!

@Carmie  part of the problem woman face is there are always more of us needing to use the toilet , because we  always have kids in tow and men usually don't

I went on a pilgrimage  and   there were a few busloads of us . All of the woman's toilets were lined up with ladies waiting their turn. But, not many men go to stuff like that, so we used their toilet too

WE made sure that someone stood at the door, to warn the men what was going on. But none appeared.  I don't fault you for doing what you did. I think most of us would do the same under your circumstances

@cherry  Apparently some states have building laws that put the number of stalls for men/women to reflect the same amount of average time it takes for them to use the restroom.  Since women's clothing is often more complicated and they have issues that men don't have, it's about the amount of time needed for the same number of men or women to go that determines how many "facilities" each will have.

It is absurd to say that people can't use the handicapped stall.  And I think most handicapped people would agree with that.  Good grief.  If no handicapped person is there it's silly to make people wait.
