another word that bothers me is the word WASH. I pronounce it just like it reads..Waaa shhhhh...
My girlfriend growing up said: WURERRRR-SHH.

Someone I watch on YouTube does that, and I say it the right way everytime. My skin crawls. 2 t's honey, 2 t's!!!! LOL I love to have a small thing to fuss over, while the rest of my life is in strife right now.

This is definitely not a dig at the OP. But as long as I've hung around here, I have seen this very topic perhaps four or more times a year. So I guess that it is truly a hot
"Buh on" topic.

LOL! Every time I hear someone say that without the T's, I correct them, as if they can hear me. I agree, it's downright weird. I was never taught to keep the "t" silent, when I was a wee little girl.
Oh well...bless their heart.

This topic has come up before and I must say I've never heard anyone pronounce "button" without the t's. It seems quite strange that anyone would do that. Maybe I'm not listening close enough.

I think it comes from influencer culture. If you don't have a nice micrphone with a screen on it, hard Ts sound very harsh and spitty in the recording. And influencers like to use their iPhone earbuds as their microphone.

Buh-un=button
Go head= go ahead
Lenth = length
So many more...but they do bug me because I think standard English is becoming a thing of the past and we need to preserve it. Using it shows intelligence....so many of these changes are from texting, and also from language used on tv and movies. smh These don't depend upon where you live....I have lived in many parts of the country so I take those into account; no problem for those.

I can't say I've ever noticed someone saying "button" differently. I do have a funny story that happened early in my marriage. My husband is from the midwest, and I'm an east coast girl. One day I heard him ask me to hand him a "pin". I responded, "A safety pin or a straight pin?" He looked at me strangely and said, "A pin that you write with." That's when I realized he was asking for a PEN!
